Hey -

So, currently the 2025 Payload Tourney is happening but there's an issue with the Formula, it's Win Based.

Now, at a glance, this may not seem bad, but then you look at how the Leaderboard becomes a Bundle of Luck, whether you're put with more Skilled Players or Less Skilled Players will overall affect your Win to Loss Ratio. This doesn't particularly encourage Skill because players can rely on being carried, and hard carried in some cases.

Continuing, the 2025 Leaderboard should really be changed, because making it "Win Based" is just really bad and as I said, it doesn't show Skill at all. Which is why it should be KDR Based (Kill ; Death Ratio), because having a KDR Based Leaderboard makes it so that players actually Earn their Position atop the Leaderboard, opposed to not contributing much in the Game and getting Score for a Win.

Overall, having it being "Win Based" makes it Boring, because it's anyone can Win, but not everyone should Win, so more Skilled Players can easily be dropped from their Position on the Leaderboard to a much Worse Position because they lost a few Games, and they don't have an option to Fight for it because of majority of the Team Compositions and how the Game favours the Imperial Side, it's just very messed up.

I agree with Deathlish here, it's unfair. It's also relatively easy for the Imperials to win when it's a 3v3. This makes winning almost a guarantee for people who get set into the Imperials.

you wont be #1 by being carried and like tall (and I earlier on discord) said, kd leaerboard just encourages a strategy that is basically game throwing and just staying alive

Pretty sure you could get carried all the way to something like Top 5 at least, and as the Post says, KDR would be a Better way to Calculate the Leaderboard and who should be where, whereas the Win Leaderboard just places people based on their Wins which is pure unrefined Luck, and Winning doesn't mean you're Skillful in the slightest. And even if a KDR Leaderboard is Bad, the Win Based one is Worse, it's completely focused on Luck via Team Compositions.

An example of a Win Based Leaderboard working is Star Racing, because unlike Payload, there's no killing and it's right that it's Win Based, but it doesn't work for Payload in the slightest.

- Top5 in a game that's played by no more than 10 people isn't a really good argument, most of the time you can't even get six people to start the game
- KDR wouldn't be a better way, because like we already mentioned a few times, it was used before and it caused people to game throw, period. You can make a million points and it wouldn't change that fact. People on rebels would throw their team under a bus and hide in buildings whilst healing just to maintain their high KD ratio or even people who just run away after every kill they get so that they can heal.
- Let's not forget that Payload is a team game. Obviously there won't be a perfect system to find the ultimate best player but to me its more important to keep the core of the game alive and allow people to enjoy it without it becoming a ruined gamemode for sweats who are tryharding and bending the gameplay just so they get higher on some leaderboard.

This is a ridicilous statement, of course you'll lose the game if you run away after each kill you get and leave your team alone

At finally, you linked both leaderboards and I really cant tell whats wrong with the current one bc I still see that KD ratio effects it QUITE A LOT?? I fail to see a drastic (if any) change for this thread to be necessary. And imo, I would personally fully remove deaths from the equation.

I think you will find that if you try and win, you can get a decent W/L,
If anything, Id like to see maybe push time added to reward points and boost points per win.

- I've currently seen quite a few people join Payload this Year at Peak Times, being at 10 or at 12, which is the Maximum amount of Players needed to Start a Game. You just probably don't play it enough or you log on at non-peak times.

- I'd honestly say it's not particularly throwing, it's using their Game Environment to their Advantage, even I admit, I do hide every now and then in a place to regain a bit of Health to continue the Fight, but that's pretty much all that is. I think a way to fix this is just showing people their Deaths in the Scoreboard, so it could stop the "throwing".

- Yes it is a Team Game, but for the Leaderboard I don't think that should be the case, a Leaderboard is Competitive, Winning does not show any Skill, it just shows you know how to play the Game, whereas there is more Skill in using your Aim to shoot at people and rack up Kills. This point alone shows the silliness of the Payload Leaderboard being Win Related.

- I linked both Leaderboards just for a Comparison and if anyone just wanted to have a look at the Differences, and also if Staff wanted to see anything.

- I still don't think that Winning should be the Formula for a Gamemode like this, especially since it comes around once a year. And even if people try to Win, they either get dragged down by their own Team, or the other Team just has some Insane Players and it doesn't end well. And sometimes that can be a losing streak and logging off would be better off.

- I mean, yeah, I wouldn't mind if Push-Time did affect the Scoreboard, because some matches I've had, people have forgotten to push Grogu to a Checkpoint and so if that can contribute then maybe Games would also progress a little faster as well.

Anddddd I was right, @Deathlish they literally didn't change the formula at all, it was just confirmed. How do you even come up with making such thread 💀 If anything, they should actually make a new formula that does put more focus on wins just based on all the points that were brought up here. Otherwise you can literally delete the thread
