For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Droobledore, and I am the creator and owner of PotterworldMC. For those of you who do know me, it has been a moment, but I am excited and glad to speak to you all once again!
Several months ago, I made an announcement that I was going to be taking a step back from PotterworldMC to focus on other endeavors and real life. At that time, I passed on the very important role of guiding and content creation to the Potterworld Staff team! It never ceases to amaze me how much passion and care the staff put into creating content. I have always been honored to work alongside such a great team!
Well, today, I have another announcement for you all. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, Noah and Chailey came to me to discuss their resignation. I would like to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to the server over the last half-decade, including their contributions to events, roleplay, and world content. With them leaving the team, I have therefore decided that I will be stepping back into the seat of Game Director for PotterworldMC! During this transition period of a few weeks, we'll be working to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible, with Chailey and Noah finishing a few things in the coming weeks before their departure.
They’ve asked me to pass along a message from them to all of you:
Over the last half-decade and more, Potterworld has been a fantastic place for us - from creating lasting memories to helping us professionally, Potterworld has allowed us to grow as designers more than ever. Unfortunately, our time has come to depart, with both of us getting busier in real life with new jobs. To Droobledore, our dedicated Game Designers, The Head Staff Team, and team members both present and past - Thank you for working with us to help create unforgettable experiences. But most of all, to our players - Thank you for enjoying our content, for coming along with us on this journey, and for challenging us to be better Game Designers. We're still eager to see what the next chapter of Potterworld holds, and we'll be around to play the content coming around the corner. Thank you all for the wonderful years of Potterworld!
With this change, my goal is to return to help focus the team's efforts into areas lacking on the server in hopes that we can return to a time of consistent content releases and community engagement. Now, these things won’t happen overnight, we will need some time to reestablish our priorities and focus on what our goals will be.
In the interest of transparency, I want to share with you what my goals are now that I have returned. I will omit the details for now until a later date, but I do want to share what my goals are so you all can understand what I am here to do.
- Our first priority is to advance the server’s internal version used for Minecraft. As discussed in our recent Development blogs, we will be pushing for an internal version of 1.18, though we will now also be extending this upgrade to include viaversion support for 1.21.8. We feel that being behind on versions means it is harder for new players to discover our server and limits our ability to reach more players.
- I will be shelving any progression on Directium/Systems 2.0. This is a decision that I have made because with the resources we currently have, I do not feel confident we can deliver an experience worthy of our players. That being said, I do feel it is quite important to re-envision our player leveling experience as I do not believe we are being served well by our current system. This is something that I will be working on myself with the team. More information on this in the future!
- We want to refocus the resources we do have on 2 important aspects of the server, Live content through Academics and Expeditions and Events. We want to revive the regular cadence of gameplay content that comes with those two aspects. Again, we will need time to enact our plan, and what I want to do is to close out this year with what was planned for Halloween and Winter Waltz from the previous structure and focus on this new plan post new year. I understand that is a long time to wait, but our goal is to improve on the 2 mentioned systems and we will need time to do so now that I have returned.
- Feedback and Improvements from the players. It’s important to me to hear out what major issues we have and do my best to address them while maintaining the goals above. Improvements that can be made will be prioritized for a better play experience for us all, and we’ll be looking to recent player feedback on areas such as the First Year Experience to see where we can make some improvements
