Academics Weekly Assignment — June 5th, 2022

Welcome to the Academics weekly assignment for the week of June 5th, 2022! These weekly assignments will give our Professors the ability to showcase some of their lesson ideas here on the website. Each assignment will be posted for a week, in which everyone will be able to read about the topic and respond to the assignment prompt. This week's assignment is "Herbology - Bleeding-Hearts" created by Arne (tqrpiar).

The assignment is as follows:
Overview
Bleeding-Hearts is a term that covers several flowers that represent the human heart. Besides being decoration, these plants get used within the magical community quite a lot!

The petals of bleeding-hearts are used for potions, but they have a very unique way of being prepared before usage. The petals have to be soaked for a full 24 hours in moonwater—this dissolves a majority of the poison within the flower. Afterwards, the bleeding-hearts have to be boiled in a golden cauldron on high heat for 24 hours. Any other cauldron besides a golden one is not fit to get rid of bleeding-hearts’ poison.

If these steps aren’t done correctly, it’s guaranteed to have a failed potion and hospital trip on the side.

Assignment
Beyond potions, what are some other uses you can see bleeding-heart being used for? Can this toxic plant be used for a good cause, or is it restricted to negative uses? Does its poisonous nature play a part? If so, how? If not, how do you get around it?
