Overview
Paka’a is the Hawaiian god of the wind. Despite being a god, he was raised as a normal boy. He was adopted into a family and grew up thinking he was their biological child. He only noticed as he got older that he looked nothing like his siblings. Paka’a spent a lot of time around the water. He enjoyed fishing and watching the fishermen fish. He even invented the sail to make fishing easier! Later in life, he was given a gourd to carry the winds in. One day, there was a big boat race that Paka’a attended. There are many varying ideas of what the racers were competing for, but the most likely prize was someone’s hand in marriage. While spectating the race, Paka’a noticed one of the sailors being rude to another. The interaction reminded him of fishermen making fun of his weakness when he was a boy. To retaliate, he set the winds upon the other sailor’s sail. This gave him enough of an advantage to leave the rude sailor behind. The sailor that had been rude finished the race days later than the sailor he’d been mean to. The winner of the race was the sailor that Paka’a helped with his winds.
