Background
A monologue is a device often used in film and theatre and consists of a long speech made by a single, individual character. Usually, a monologue is a way to verbalise or express the character’s innermost thoughts and offers insight into that character.
One of the most famous monologues was written by William Shakespeare and spoken by the character Hamlet in Hamlet:
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns

Hamlet’s monologue was specifically a soliloquy, a monologue spoken out loud despite there being no other characters around to hear it. It exists solely for the audience and rarely advances the plot of the story, though occasionally characters do make certain realisations that do affect the plot while they are soliloquising. Monologues can also vary in tone, with many being light and funny, unlike Hamlet’s.

Write your own monologue! It can be spoken by a character that you create, a character from a piece of existing media, or it can be something that you yourself want to express. If using a character that already exists, please take extra care to not plagiarise from the source material.
