Overview:
Monsieur Mercier’s Macarons is a little cafe founded in Versailles, France in 1592. It was founded by Jacques Mercier, the son of an Unmagical chef and a magical alchemist. His parents' death in 1587 caused him immense grief, so his neighbour, Jolene, helped Jacques pick himself back up. This led to Jacques regaining his love for baking. Monsieur Mercier began to create flavours that Unmagicals and magicals alike could enjoy! He began with 12 flavours at first; however, his curiosity began to expand. What if he could combine magic with food? He took his mother’s career in alchemy and his father’s career in food to create new items for the world. His macarons could now create certain effects on the consumer depending on the filling and biscuit pairing!
The cafe still has Unmagical macarons to not lose business, and simply because some magicals would prefer no side effects, but there are two codewords which float around the wizarding community to allow for the magic macarons to be bought. After ordering the macarons, the cashier will say “Will this be all?” The magical can either say “All I’ll need besides this is 5 napkins and a biscuit.” or “Yes please. Could you add my name to the bottom of my box?” These phrases aren’t anything that would stand out to an Unmagical, but they are specific and odd enough to only be said by those who need the magical macarons.
Macarons:
There are 12 flavours of macarons to be bought, and each flavour can be purchased alone or with magical attributes.
- Tangy Vanilla
- A vanilla biscuit with lemon filling.
- In part, the consumer’s face turns yellow and puckers up like a lemon. If eaten whole, the taste buds flip to make sweet things savoury, etc. This is mainly used for pranks.
- Chocolate on Chocolate
- Chocolate biscuit with chocolate filling (available in dark and milk chocolate).
- Grants minor healing properties to the one who eats it.
- Strawberry Cheesecake
- Cheesecake biscuit with strawberry filling and jam.
- The consumer is granted good luck for 30 minutes! The effect is not extreme.
- Lavender Vacation
- Lavender biscuit with coconut filling.
- In parts, the consumer will experience calm feelings and relaxation. As a whole, the consumer will go into deep sleep for 1 hour.
- Pistachio
- Pistachio biscuit and vanilla filling.
- Consumer becomes “nutty” for a few moments. This includes behaviour, jokes, crazy speech, etc.
- Salty Tea
- Earl grey biscuit with salted caramel filling.
- The consumer will speak their mind with no worries. This is useful for games such as Truth or Dare.
- White Chocolate Raspberry
- Raspberry biscuit with white chocolate filling.
- The consumer will experience an hour of protection in many ways. This includes warding off negative energy and weakening harmful impact.
- Rose
- Rose biscuit with vanilla filling.
- The pupils will form into the shape of a heart as hearts surround the consumer. This lasts 4 hours.
- Early Bird
- Coffee biscuit with coffee filling.
- Consumer will become incredibly energised for 2 hours, including super speed, fast thinking, and increased vision.
- Cherry on Top
- Cherry biscuit and chocolate filling (available in dark and milk chocolate).
- The consumer will levitate and shoot into the air. The landing is gentle. This is typically seen at events such as birthday parties.
- Berry Almond
- Almond biscuit and raspberry jam.
- This gives the consumer an aura of extreme confidence. This will last for 2 hours. This macaron is typically bought for when the consumer must be watched by the public.
- Caramel Apple
- Apple biscuit and caramel filling.
- A warm, cosy feeling will appear inside the consumer. This will bring forth the happiest memories the consumer has for themselves and others if the consumer chooses. This is useful for increased success in casting Animus Exto due to the happy memories.
