Can’t connect to server ‘failed to connect to server’

Hi, so I haven’t gone on the sever in a while, but when I tried to, it said ‘failed to connect to server’. I refreshed it, restarted my computer, checked my internet and I’m using the latest update but I still can’t get onto it?

I have figured out that I needed to use an older update and I can play now

What update was it?

The server is between 1.10 and 1.13 but the recommended version is 1.12.2!
