FAQ: Technical Difficulties

Status
Not open for further replies.
This FAQ will highlight a few different technical difficulties you can experience and some possible solutions. This FAQ will not cover all possible issues and all possible solutions. If the FAQ did not help with your issue, please make a support ticket on the website.

Firstly, the 16x16 no font resource pack has the least lag of the four Resource Packs.
The following settings in Minecraft can also help with lag.
Graphics = Fast
Smooth Lighting = Off
3D Anaglyph = Off
Particles = Minimum
Render Distance = Max 10
Performance = Max FPS
Advanced OpenGL = On
Clouds = Off
Turning off Snooper Settings might also help.

Optifine can also really help with reducing lag and downloading it is quite easy. If you have optifine, there are many video settings you can play with.
In Details, turn everything to ‘off’ or to ‘fast’ where possible. In Animation Settings, turn everything off and put particle settings to minimal. In Quality Settings, turn everything off except Minimap level, Clear Water, and Natural Textures. These three can be either on or off. Performance Settings is completely optional. In Other Settings, turn off Lagometer, Weather, 3D Anaglyph, and Debug Profiler.

Outdated drivers for your graphic card can also cause issues. Make sure your video card is up to date!

One last way to reduce lag is to allocate more RAM to Minecraft. To allocate more RAM, follow the next steps:
  1. Find out how much RAM you have. If you are not sure how to check this, follow this link.
  2. Open the Minecraft launcher and go to Installations.
  3. Select the version you use to play Minecraft.
  4. Click “more options”.
  5. Where it says JVM Arguments, the first argument should be something like “-Xmx1G”. Change the number to the amount of RAM you wish to give to Minecraft. Never allocate all of your RAM. Make sure to never allocate more than the total your PC has minus 2 GB.

This is usually an issue with loading in the resource pack. Turn down Render Distance in video settings to something fairly low, such as 5 or 10. In the Multiplayer menu, select the server and then select edit at the bottom of the menu. Then set Resource Packs to prompt. Click done and then join the server. Make sure the server has completely loaded in before accepting the resource pack prompt.
If this does not work, also look at “How can I reduce my lag on the server?” question above. If that still didn’t help, make a support ticket on the website.

First make sure the resource pack is set to enabled or prompt within the server settings.
If it was already enabled/prompt, find the minecraft folder (see below on how to do that) and then head into server-resource-packs. If the server-resource-packs folder is missing, then that is your issue. To fix this, simply create a new folder and name it server-resource-packs. If it wasn’t missing, and the resource pack worked before, simply locate the Potterworld Resource Pack and delete it. The file should be around 14.000 kB. If you cannot find it, just delete all the files within the folder. Rejoin the server and it should be fixed.

If still not fixed, check if you have any mods enabled. If you do have a mod enabled that is not Optifine, disable it and see if that works. Forge has been known to sometimes cause issues related to the resource pack.

Another option is a firewall or parental software not letting you download the Resource pack. Temporarily disable all such software and see if the resource pack works then. If it does, you will need to add Minecraft as an exception. If not, please make a support ticket on website so a staff member can help you further. Make sure to re enable your firewall/parental software! If you cannot figure out if you have a firewall enabled, or you need help with disabling the software, or adding an exception, please feel free to make a support ticket.

Below is video tutorial on how to fix your resource pack however it is not as inclusive as this text tutorial. We do recommend checking it out before making a support ticket.

First, make sure you are using any version from 1.10 up until 1.13. If you are unsure how to change your game versions, check out this link. Also make sure you are using a legitimate/premium version of the Java edition of Minecraft. The IP is play.potterworldmc.com however you can also use potterworldmc.com. It is recommended that if one doesn’t work, to also try the other. Make sure your Java is up to date as well.

There is also some software that can cause issues with Minecraft. For an extensive list, click here. If a software you use is on this list, try disabling it and see if you can connect then. If the issue was a virus scanners, parental software, or firewall, make sure to add Minecraft and Java as an exception. If you need help with this, feel free to make a website support ticket.
If you have any mods enabled, like Forge or some HUD enhancer, try disabling them to see if that fixes the issue.

Restarting your modem/router can also help. Also check this link to see if everything is alright on Minecraft’s side, and check out Potterworld’s Discord to see if there are any ongoing connection issues.

If none of this fixed your connection issues, please make a website support ticket. Please include as much detail as possible and make sure to also state which specific error you get when you try to connect.

For Windows, use the search option and enter %APPDATA%\.minecraft
For Mac, it is located in ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
For Linux, it is located in ~/.minecraft
The ~ for Mac and Linux indicates the home directory. Folders starting with a . are hidden by default.
