I dont know how to chat with my friend.

I just made a friend and he private messages me but I cant figure out how to private message him back.

Hi!

You can message a friend in the server by hitting the T key to open the chat input window and then enter /msg <their name> <your message> to send a new private message to them, or if they recently messaged you, you can type /r <your message> to reply directly to them.

So as an example, to message me you would type /msg Crymson hi there!
