Over the past few years, there have been several suggestions proposing different types of open world PvP.
Here are the main ones:
Mateo's suggestion: Add a /duel command that requests a certain player to duel and when clicked transports you into a 1v1 arena-esque game. (ON-HOLD)
Hektor's suggestion 1.0: Add a /pvp command that would put you into PvP mode where anyone else in PvP mode can cast on you (ON-HOLD)
Hektor's suggestion 2.0: Add a "Challenge for a Duel" emote that if accepted with another emote allows the two specified players to duel between each other (COMPLETED..... not really)
Scoobydoolego's suggestion: Add a copied new world where PvP is allowed everywhere (DECLINED)
After all these suggestions, quite a confusion has emerged. Hektor's second suggestion about the emote was marked as completed but only the acceptance emote itself was added... no actual mechanic to start a duel - so essentially the suggestion, in all major aspects, was declined. Mateo's suggestion was accepted and is now on-hold. However, while this mechanic begins with a command in the Open/Live World, it is not majorly different from the typical 1v1 arena. Therefore the main suggestion to look at is Hector's on-hold suggestion which claims the possibility of a PvP option being added to the game.
If still accepted, this suggestion means that the staff team believe they have the tech to be able to activate PvP in the Open World, wherever and for whoever it may be. The acceptance of Mateo's suggestion also means that the tech could allow players to accept certain duel requests (although even the /trade request proves that) and with Hector's second suggestion also being 'completed', we already have an emote to accept duels.
All this seems to point to one thing: that Hector's FULL second suggestion should be possible to implement. The major part (about the acceptance of a duel, followed by a countdown, and then a duel itself) was declined for being 'too messy'; but if the PvP activation and deactivation isn't the problem, the accepting the duel isn't the problem, and the emote isn't the problem, then the only possible problem must be with being killed at the end of the duel and hence being sent to the closest spawn point. But there are two issues with this complaint:
1) This isn't really a problem: many people wouldn't mind being sent to the closest spawn point if it means that they can at least duel in the Open World.
2) I doubt that this is harder to implement than any PvP activation system. I wouldn't know the exact tech behind it but it doesn't seem like a problem that some heavy resistance or healing couldn't fix - corrections are welcome.
The only other problem with the suggestion I can think of is the fact that 2 duellists in a duel could potentially harm two other duellists in a duel if close by. This doesn't seem like much of an issue.
So anyway, this is mainly just a suggestion to renew both Hektor's 2nd suggestion and also TOMAHAWK1907's duplicate suggestion. But it's also most definitely to get a bit more clarity on what exactly is too messy about the /duel (or emote) and accept mechanic working in the Open World. It is by far the preferred way of Open World duelling and would certainly make for great game/roleplay, while also making the world feel more alive.
