Shop Competition

Shop Competition
Over the past several weeks, the Ministry of Magicians has received several applications for new magical businesses, applying to be able to open their shops across the British Isles. Sadly, the Minister for Magicians, NathanWolf, only has one permit at this time. On top of that, he’s been unable to make a decision on which shop should receive the permit. He has dispatched Auralock Petunia Grace to Hogsworth to poll students to ask which shop they’d like to see added in the future.

How to Participate
Players can find Petunia Grace in the Great Hall Courtyard, where they can learn more information. On top of that, the Ministry of Magicians has provided the following files from each application, so you can learn more about the possible shops before voting.

Once you have read up on the choices, be sure to make your selection by talking to Petunia Grace in the Great Hall Courtyard. Each player may only vote once, and voting will end on December 14th at 12 PM PST, so be sure to get your votes in before then!

Swrl Yogurt

Ministry Background Check

Sponsored by Paige Caulfield, a graduate of Hogsworth, who specialised in advanced magical cuisine during her time in school. She originally ran a bakery in Wigtown. The bakery was closed in 2019 due to an infestation of pixies who routinely stole her pastries, due to the inclusion of Blue Dye #7 in many of her desserts. A report made at the time by the Auralock on scene describes the pixies as "glowing from the inside" and "seemingly intoxicated". Paige received a significant payout from the Department of Accidents and Catastrophes following the incident.

Paige Caulfield has written the following in the "Goals" section of the permit:

If "Swrl Yogurt" is approved, I would work hastily to find a storefront in Griffin’s Hollow to house my new business. Through my research, I have discovered that the Unmagicals tend to like "Frozen Yogurt" quite a bit. I would, of course, serve more natural flavours of Frozen Yogurt, but I believe it is time to introduce the magical world to this wonderful dessert, and as such, would offer various new magical flavours and interesting twists to classics to any magical folk who stops by. As times goes on, I would experiment with new flavours and toppings.

If Swrl Yogurt wins the vote, a new shop in Griffin’s Hollow will be added where players will be able to build their own frozen yogurt, ranging from classic Unmagical flavours to a variety of magical flavours and toppings.

The De-composer

Ministry Background Check

Sponsored by Alaric Gracey, who recently quit his job as Crypt-Keeper of Riddleyard. In his resignation letter, he wrote that he wanted to find something new and fun with the remainder of his life, preferably something where he didn't have to permanently reek of garlic. For a brief time during his early life, Alaric was a musician. He was featured in an article in the Daily Diviner in 1973 for being in a band, although only weeks later he was quoted as saying that the band had dissolved as it was "Dead on arrival".

Alaric Gracey has written the following in the "Goals" section of the permit:

If "The De-composer" is approved, I would immediately work with contractors to build a new shop on the main stretch of Riddleyard Road. I believe that it would benefit the local community greatly to hear some new music, instead of the same five songs the organist blasts every day from the mansion. I've partnered with Perriere Plunkett to develop a new enchanted melody box, which will allow customers to listen to a variety of music, made by yours truly, as they go about their day. In the future, we can also have featured musicians create new music to be added to the melody box.

If The De-composer wins the vote, a new shop in Riddleyard will be added where players will be able to buy enchanted melody boxes, which will play a variety of music.

Myles’ Marvellous Mixes

Ministry Background Check

Sponsored by Myles McGauphey, a graduate of the Hogsworth class of 2022. During his time there, he often found students tired throughout their long days, including himself. As he was preparing for his H.A.T.s, he fell asleep at his desk. Vowing to be more prepared, he worked to combine his understanding of potions as well as his love of coffee to create something that packed a bit of an extra punch, allowing him to stay up and study for 72 hours straight before the exams. Although this was later deemed as cheating by the Ministry of Magicians, Myles continued to refine his creations, offering them up to other students throughout the rest of the year. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement has since granted Myles approval of his creation.

Myles McGauphey has written the following in the "Goals" section of the permit:

If "Myles Marvellous Mixes'' is approved, I would seek to create a storefront in Walden where I would be able to continue researching and developing new drinks. I would continue to sell the popular "Raven Recharge", while also creating other new drinks with various new enhancements. I would work to create a subscription-based service where I would deliver a random selection of my drinks to my customers daily, allowing students at Hogsworth to continue to get their fix. As new drinks are added, I would add them to the lineup in the service.

If Myles Marvelous Mixes wins the vote, a new shop in Walden will be added where players will be able to "subscribe" for a set period of time to receive a randomised specialty drink in their mailbox every day.

The Victory Point

Ministry Background Check

Sponsored by Prim Katan, a prominent American witch who co-founded Babbleboard, a world-renown magical game and toy company. In 2017, however, Katan was ousted out of the company by her co-founder, Sean Crabble, after she refused to let them use magical creature fur for their toys. Katan used the money she had made during that time to move to England the next year. For the past few years, she's been tinkering with various new toy concepts - sometimes to the detriment of her neighbours in Tristmoor. In at least two occasions, Auralocks had to be called due to rogue miniatures that had been created by Katan. The creation was placed on the backburner, as Katan turned her attention towards making magical dice. The concept was later revived when Katan discovered that a prominent Phoenix Leader had perfected an enchanted miniature. Katan used their research to finalise the toy line, which she's been selling from her house ever since.

Prim Katan has written the following in the "Goals" section of the permit:

If "The Victory Point" is approved, I would work to create a new storefront in Tristmoor to sell enchanted dice and charmed miniatures. I can assure the Ministry of Magicians that the charmed miniatures are now 99% riot-free. I would be able to provide a variety of different-sided dice, as well as my collection of new miniatures, which are all based on magical historical events. Each miniature would be bought in a mystery pouch, encouraging customers to trade them to try to obtain the entire collection. As we continue to grow, we could add new collections of miniatures for the future.

If The Victory Point wins the vote, a new shop in Tristmoor will be added where players will be able to buy many different dice (like the 6-sided one currently available) as well as mystery pouches which would contain an enchanted miniature as part of a collection.

Good luck and may the best shop win!
