Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Daily Diviner! Spring has sprung and many magicals are looking for ways to spend the warm days. Look no further than a magical zoo, a place full of wonder and discovery! Who knows what you could learn from taking a day to explore all the zoo has to offer? To inspire your trip, here are some creatures you might see and their habitats at the zoo!

Before we begin, please note that these are all rescues that could not survive in the wild! They are protected, well-cared for, and have plenty of space thanks to some helpful charms.

First are the grassy habitats. Verdant fields and plenty of flowers make this the perfect home to a myriad of magical creatures. Fluffle Puffs are some of the most common creatures one might see at a zoo! These pink furballs are mild-mannered and commonly found as pets. Many Fluffle Puffs seen here are rescues from unfortunate circumstances in the wild or pets that were given up; now, they have a home in the wide fields of the zoo!

If you can tear your eyes away from the adorable fluff balls bouncing around the enclosure, you might see the slightly adorable Wiggleworms! Despite their intimidating and larger-than-average appearance, these harmless worms are docile. Many of the Wiggleworms found here are rescues from illegal Wiggleworm fighting rings. Now they live peacefully in the dirt, filling the ground with nutrients. Their fields are covered in flowers due to their wonderfully cultivated soil!

Next are the damp cave habitats, within which there are many creatures that prefer the dark. For example, the slow-moving Fungimun is easy to spot as it trails along walls, leaving slime wherever it goes. Disgust for this creature’s invasive nature and putrid smell has made it important for zoos to hold a place for them. Funginum are actually quite helpful to the environment, and their moss-like presence on the walls of caves has helped many creatures thrive.

Of course, zoos must have the perfect habitat for water creatures! A vast lake habitat is the home to many, including the fascinating Kappas. These creatures will stick to the shallows and are rather dangerous, best viewed from afar. Kappas are known for their violent tendencies, especially because their main source of nourishment is the blood of their victims. Ethically sourced donations are used to feed them instead! They are also rescues, injured in their native waters and unable to protect themselves in the wild.

What wonders await you in a magical zoo? Perhaps you will soon be able to venture forth to find out! If the opportunity arises, you must surely take your friends and visit. I hope learning about the habitats of these different creatures intrigued you, and enjoy the zoo!

Magical creatures come in many different shapes and sizes, but they are all fascinating. Although there are plenty of exotic and dangerous creatures out there, some of the most captivating are the ones which magical people keep as pets. Being responsible for a pet is being responsible for another living being, so getting one should never be done on a whim. Taking care of a magical creature of your own may interest you, but it is important to be well-informed before purchasing or adopting any animal! Because of this, I interviewed caretakers of various magical creatures and have compiled their answers here in this article! You will be able to learn what to keep in mind when considering a pet of your own or simply expand your knowledge of magical creatures.

First, I interviewed Brook Belrose about their Bowleaf, Bowl, which they care for as less of a pet than a companion.

What made you interested in taking care of a bowleaf?
I’ve always been interested in the study of magical trees! I was working on a field study years ago when I found a group of Bowleaves nearby. I brought snacks to leave them, and one lazy bowleaf decided it liked them and snuck home with me when I left. Bowl has stuck with me ever since!

What is caring for a Bowleaf like?
It lives in a little attic loft I added on to my mailbox so it has a home to return to close to the house. I warded the loft to keep it safe, but it’s easy for Bowl to go outside and explore the forest nearby. I bring it a selection of berries, flowers, and leaves each morning, as it’s less inclined to hunting than dependent or antisocial Bowleaves. Bowl also accompanies me occasionally to work by perching on my head or shoulder–it’s only about 8 inches tall. It can wander the woods nearby, which are quite safe, but I trained it to also respond to a “come home” whistle for emergencies. Bowl sleeps and sunbathes a lot but is also excitable and adventurous in short bursts.

What is its favorite treat?
Cactus!

Do you have any tips for those looking to take care of a Bowleaf?
Don’t go into it searching one out to try to force it to be a pet. Bond with it naturally, and let it know you’re a good caretaker. Staying with a human means abandoning the security of living with its swarm, so you have to show it that you can meet its needs. Building trust with a Bowleaf is super important.

Next, I spoke to Paisley Linelin about her Fluffle Puff, Cashmere.

What made you interested in taking care of a Fluffle Puff?
I had one when I was little, and I’ve just loved them ever since. I foster Fluffle Puffs that need to be rehomed, which is how I came across Cashmere! I didn’t expect to keep him, but two years later, here we are.

What is taking care of a Fluffle Puff like?
Unsurprisingly, a lot of it is brushing and fur upkeep. I feed him Fluffle Puff feed the local pet shop sells and supplement that with vegetables and fruits. It’s important to check what’s in the feed you buy and make sure your Puff is getting all the nutrients it needs, and spicing things up with fruit in particular can act as enrichment for them!

What is Cashmere’s favorite treat?
Strawberries, which is good because they’re my favorite, too.

Do you have any tips for those looking to take care of a Fluffle Puff?
Fluffle Puffs are very dependent creatures and prefer company, so they’re not an ideal pet for someone who isn’t home a lot. I work from home and can spend lots of time with Cashmere. You also need to “baby proof” the house or room the Puff is kept in, as they’re not the smartest creatures out there and can easily get themselves in trouble.

Finally, I interviewed Templeton Barlow about his freshwater Murtlett, Basil.

What made you interested in taking care of a Murtlett?
I attended Hogsworth as a child and the docile Murtlett population there made them my favorite animal. They also got me interested in the treatment of creatures by Magicals. Now, I am an advocate of magical creature and animal rights and protections. Because Murtletts have historically been a target of Magical wildlife abuse, I use them as an example when explaining the importance of protecting magical creatures.

What is taking care of this creature like?
I have a small pond in my backyard for Basil to swim and fish in. She is the only Murtlett there as well as spayed, so she is not a threat to the local fish population. The yard also has lots of space for her to explore and dig to maintain her claws. I also provide some moss, fungi, and insects for meals, and Basil supplements that with small fish and bugs she catches. Sometimes, I bury treats in the yard for her to find as enrichment. She is very cat-like in that she’s affectionate but also independent.

What is Basil’s favorite treat?
Egg yolk, interestingly enough.

Do you have any tips for those looking to take care of a Murtlett?
Murtletts can be very temperamental, and too many people try to change them rather than adapt to their natural behaviors and needs. If you can’t handle it, don’t try to take care of it.

Talking to these creature caretakers was such an interesting experience, and I am happy to be able to share their helpful information! A lot more time and effort goes into caring for these complex creatures than you might expect. This is why learning as much about their needs before deciding to care for one is so important.

Welcome readers to the 2025 Wizardry Pet Show! This year, the event is celebrating its 175th anniversary, and there will be no shortage of traditional tournaments or new attractions. If you haven’t heard of this world-class experience until now, you’re in luck! I’ll be your guide to the event that shaped our understanding of the magical creatures in our care.

Beginning in the mid-19th century, this event has stood the test of time in London to become its official magical pet show. Its goal has remained the same since its inception: to unite pet owners and showcase the greatest magical pets the world has to offer. Despite its occasional controversies over excluding certain species (It’s a universally-known fact that dragonologists detest the Wizardry Pet Show Board), it is a well-beloved institution of magical Britain.

This year’s Wizardry Pet Show boasts many of its usual activities. The competitions are its most obvious draw, bringing in throngs of magicals who want to see what a bit of training can make of the magical creatures in our world. That, or they like a good laugh: watching witches lose their minds over a Wiggleworm wobbling along a track will supply that in waves.

A lesser-known but no less important aspect of these shows is the adoption portion. From purebred owls to stray Sneelers, there is no shortage of possible pets. If you’ve been considering adding a magical furry or fiery friend to your home, this is the place to go for all the latest research on your options, not to mention a one-stop shop for all your Dangerous Creature Licensing needs.

Even if you already have your hands full with a fuzzy friend, this is still a must-see, as you’ll find every pet-related business worth its salt among the stands, including owl trainers, magical creature breeders, and specialized feed and pet-sitting companies.

This year, the main competitions are no less of a crowd magnet than before. Added to its ranks to celebrate the 175th is the Fluffle Puff IQ Test.

Fluffle Puffs are widely renowned as some of the dumbest but friendliest critters in the magical world, very similar to the unmagical, extinct dodo bird. As such, it is a great pleasure to watch these pink balls of fur attempt a simplified IQ test– and largely fail. It appears that a whole mass of magicals have piled into the stands to watch the usually serene beasties grow irate and insensible at even the most basic treat puzzles.

Then, we have the perennial favorite: Wiggleworm racing. Magicals young and old enter this contest every year, boasting to have found the speediest wriggler in their very own backyard! It’s no mystery that this is the goofiest and slowest event of them all. Still, everyone loves to get worked up over the unhurried writhing of their chosen slime-trailer! I’ve heard rumors of a specially-bred and enhanced Wiggleworm named Turbin making waves this year.

Across the way, you’ll also find the ever-popular costume competition, including Hippogriffs, despite last year’s disaster… Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to allow such a prideful beast to be publicly judged on its aesthetic qualities. Nonetheless, Henrietta the Hippogriff, whose handler reminds me that she was only alleged to have attacked a particularly harsh judge after the 174th show, has reportedly returned this year for another battle of the beauties.

That should have you up to speed on this year’s 175th celebration! Stick around, and you’ll be able to see the creatures who emerge victorious from the steep competition and make a name for themselves. I hope you’re feeling inspired to seek out a magical friend to ferry home after this fantastic event!

Now that you have answered each question, it is time to find out your Dragon! Whichever letter you have the most corresponds to your Dragon.

If you chose mostly A, then you got the Pyrausta. You have a light-hearted and fun personality with a hint of mischief. The Pyrausta are a rather rare type of Dragon with fairy-like wings and are only the size of a large fly. They love the outdoors and have been known to become depressed or aggressive if kept indoors. Because of their small size, they tend to quickly zip around snagging small valuable objects such as jewelry.

If you chose mostly B, then you got the Snouthorn. You are more introverted and have a mysterious aura, but you care deeply for your family and friends. Snouthorns reside in the mountains in order to blend in and stay hidden. They are able to do so with their brown scales and tough, leathery wings. Despite being seen as aggressive towards humans, they are close-knit with their own kind and will become extremely lonely without a nestmate.

If you chose mostly C, then you got the Thorntail. You are fiery and ambitious but very loyal and protective of the ones you love. Thorntails are one of the most dangerous documented Dragon breeds. Their bodies are covered in spikes of various sizes and are covered in black scales. Thorntails are possessive and loyal, using their incredible speed and fire-range to defend those they care for. This can include offspring, a human companion, and items they have taken ownership of.

If you chose mostly D, then you got the Emerald Dragon. You have a calm, easy-going personality and an incredibly creative soul. Emerald Dragons have distinct, beautiful green scales and pitch black eyes. They roar a melodious tune and are known as one of the calmest Dragon breeds. However, they value their freedom and often become volatile when kept in cages.

Did you get the Dragon you were hoping for? These are just a few of the many Dragon types, so take this as an opportunity to learn more about your Dragon or a new Dragon species. Have a wonderful day!

Taking walks around the Hogsworth grounds is something Emilia has always loved to do. She can never tell if it is because of her humming songs as she does so or because of her love for the outdoors.

Ever since her first year when she was told to never go into the Dark Forest, she has decided to take her walks right next to it. This is mostly because she hopes to spot the Magical Creatures she has been taught about in class, and because no other students are around her. It is almost a secret hike even though anybody could see her if they looked up.

It thus doesn't take long for her to spot the wounded unicorn a few feet ahead. Not wasting a breath she makes her way over, making sure she is seeing it right before looking at the creature itself, studying it in great detail. It is why she spots the looks of a broken leg.

“Oh dear, Merlin! You need help.” Emilia whispers the words to herself, feeling a wave of sadness wash over her as she inspects the leg closer. A splint could help heal the leg naturally if there isn’t any pressure on it for too long.

“Finally, some help.” The Unicorn speaks up, pain clear in his voice as Emilia stares at him in disbelief. She never knew magical creatures could speak.

“Oh, don’t look at me like that. I can speak, now please help me with my broken leg. I am sure you know a spell to fix it.” Emilia shakes her head to which the Unicorn scoffs loudly.

“Then what are you waiting for? Get somebody who does know!” Annoyance rolls off the Magical Creature as Emilia’s face falls into sadness. Footsteps appear next to the two, and they both look up to see the Groundskeeper walking towards them.

“A birdie told me about the Unicorn. This should fix it.” The Groundskeeper pours a purple looking potion over the leg, bandaging it afterwards. Emilia watches in wonder as the bandages become a nature friendly splint that the Unicorn can take off once its leg is healed.

“Thank you.” Without giving the time for anybody to respond, the Unicorn disappears into the forest again. The Groundskeeper sighs and turns towards Emilia, who stares at the empty spot between the trees that the Unicorn disappeared through.

“His name is Richard. He’s… not used to asking for help, especially not from bright witches like you.” He attempts to cheer her up, which works as Emilia chuckles.

“I didn’t want to try a healing spell on anything that isn’t a human like we’re taught in class.” Her reasoning floats in the air between the two people before the Groundskeeper puts his hand on her shoulder.

“And that was very smart of you, Emilia. Let’s get a drink at the kitchens, shall we?” Emilia follows the Groundskeeper immediately. She doesn't need to be told twice that she gets to go into the kitchens.
