WizNewsletter - January 2023

Created in October of 2020, the WizNewsletter serves as a way for students and staff to recap on the month's updates. WizNetworkers spend countless hours researching, writing, editing, and implementing each section so that the happenings of the wizarding world do not go unnoticed. Let’s get into the news from the past month!

DEPARTMENT & APPLICATIONS
This month quite a few changes have been made to the Scribe Team. Scribe Intern and Scribe Publisher roles have now been combined to increase the amount of content we put out for the Potterworld wiki. This new role will be called Scribe Publisher, however, every member of the team now is responsible for both writing pages as well as implementing the content onto the wiki. Because of these changes, the Scribe team will be shifting from player applications to staff-only. This will not affect anything visually as the wiki will remain the same as it always has. Thank you so much for all the support you have given to the wiki and we are excited to see it grow.

SERVER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Give a big round of applause to the Ravens on winning the final quarter's House Cup! With a 2,000-point lead, the Ravens dominated the competition, showing everyone how their hard work paid off. In order to celebrate, players can talk to NPC Francine Cades just outside of the Great Hall. Don't forget to continue to work hard, as the next House Cup will be awarded in March!
With the rush of excitement over the past few months, it'd be hard to forget about the Season Championships! Dueling and Flying challenges have been held over the course of 3 months, with many competitors participating. The wait is over, as we finally have our 2022 Season 4 Arena Champions! Give a cheer to TallBlondeDude, Enzologies, and LittleI. With Enzologies coming in first in the Flying category, LittleI coming in first for the Dueling category, and TallBlondeDude coming on top in the Overall category! Congrats to all who participated, and we can't wait to see you in our next face-off!
Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 Winter Minigames Tournaments! This year's tournaments featured mini-games such as Sledding, Wand Spleef, and Snowballing. The Snowballing first place prize was awarded to Jacques, as they fought a hard battle throughout the tournament, earning well over 1000pts. The Sledding game was won by Davologies as they had players racing down the hills, leaving them behind in their snowy dust. Finally, we have the winner of the Wand-Spleef mini-game, beating their opponents in a landslide victory, HektorTM, as their points nearly doubled their competitor in second place.
A great way to begin the new year are with new cosmetics! The new Aurora Borealis release includes an alluring Aurora Staff, an adorable Pet Arctic Fox to follow wherever you go, and a protective Arctic Fox Guardian who will fight any Dementare in your path! Make sure to go check it out!
With a new year, comes new changes, and, of course, new maps! Every three months, minigame maps will be rotated to let other maps have a place in the spotlight. Included in these new maps, there will be an Ireland map added to Hide and Seek, and a Hogsworth Adventures map added to Melting Floor. Check these spectacular new maps out in the minigames!
GAMEPLAY UPDATES
The Game Designer Team is back with another mid-update patch for all Potterworld players! Be on the lookout for a change within the British Isles with Woodshire's Pre-Release now available to play. Stay tuned as more clues, hints, and puzzles unveil themselves to reveal the hidden nature of Woodshire! Along with the pre-release, the spell "Signum" has been modified so that you can use it in mazes to leave if you happen to get lost. As for upcoming content, the team will be looking at ways to create more content for players to enjoy. Stick around to find out what they're planning!
Prepare yourself for another mid-update patch presented by our incredible Game Designer Team! This time, they’re pleased to announce the arrival of the shop, The Victory Point, in the town of Tristmoor, voted for by all of you. Here, you can buy a variety of dice for fans of roleplay games as well as a few Wizarding History-themed enchanted minifigures. However, that’s not all the store has to offer, so make sure to go check it out for yourself! The team is so glad that you all enjoyed the mini-event based on the feedback, and they had just as much fun putting it together for the community! Make sure to stay tuned for more updates in the future.
The Scribe Team was hard at work again this month preparing another update to the Wiki for you all! There are some new pages to read through, including a variety of quests, released reputation for towns around the map, locations, and events. We can’t forget to mention some of the rewritten NPC pages as well! The Scribe Team has also had some changes made to their roles in order to increase the amount of content and quality of the wiki. Make sure to go check out the wiki to see this update for yourself!
Unfortunately, the minigame Soulshard Wars has been disabled for the time being. Being one of the server’s lowest-performing minigames, the Development team has decided that it’s time to put it to rest instead of spending time reinventing it to fit the style of the rest of the server. More information will be presented in the January Development Blog.
