Currently, gear is very boring to get and what makes it even more tedious is the fact that the materials you get are always the exact same: wood, metal, gem and material. The fact is, not only are these ingredients the furthest thing you can get from magic, they are also very dull and boring in the real world so making them the main thing in a Harry Potter game doesn't seem too smart - especially due to the fact that stuff like this already isn't mentioned in the book. Now, I'm not suggesting to completely remove the ingredients, just to either modify the way that you have to get them, or the way you can get them and also make them less of a main focus.
Here's my suggestion:
Gear is to be crafted with wood, metal, gem and material and also all other things mobs drops. So for different gear you would have to go to different mobs even if they're the same level. It would add to more people actually going to different mobs to get different gear and also make it seem that bit more magical. I think it would also be cool if wood/gems and that could be obtained in other ways apart from just griding mobs, maybe if they were made less common from killing mobs and you could like click a sparkling bit on a tree to get wood or ore in the ground which would be more efficient but I'm not sure. I just believe at one point, gear needs to move away from the boring, unmagical wood, material, gem and metal.
