Cant join Server

So Im new to this and just downloaded Java on my macbook today, but I figrued out how to change my version so I changed it to v1.12.2 reading thats what most use. When I do it it puts a little red caution mark just saying to see if that has anything to do with it. But when I go to multiplayer and enter server name and Ip I try to join but it says conection refused and has a big red x over it. I dont know how to fix this or what Im doing wrong.

First of all make sure you are using the correct IP: play.potterworldmc.com without any extra spaces, dots or anything (especially in the front). Then, try reloading your entire minecraft and check out the Technical Difficulties FAQ here. Your version is correct and should work.

According to a quick search on google - "The error says the authentication servers are down for maintenance. ... This has nothing to do with servers going offline. This is something to do with the firewall on your computer - something is blocking minecraft from working properly. Servers go down for like 5 minutes at a time, but during this time NO one can join. "

I would say search your error on Google - I know of many people who have had this problem - there will be plenty of videos and tutorials to assist you in getting it sorted.

No i did not change my user name recently and no i do not have a premium minecraft im on macbook and t launcher

Have you played on the server before?

If not, I think the problem is that you need a Minecraft account that was paid for in order to play on Potterworld
