Changes to the Monthly Art Giveaway Rewards

The art giveaway changed their reward of 150 PP to a $1.50 gift card. Alone, $1.50 can buy nothing from the online store other than a free reset token. This means that the winners, who are chosen at random, would have to win more than once in the span of six months (the expiry date of the gift card), or they would have to spend their own money to purchase a reward for themseves. There's even a rule to prevent participants from winning more than once in a row (a fair rule that should not be changed), which means with maximum luck, someone can only earn a $4.50 reward from art giveaways before their prize expires.

Since the monthly art giveaways began, nobody has won twice within 6 months. Even within the past year, there were 12 unique winners.

The system of rewarding gift cards/coupons to winners may be beneficial to challenges that are based in skill, such as arena where they can work towards winning more rewards, but the random draws of the art challenges do not function the same way. No matter how often someone participates or how much work is put in, it's always a random chance of winning. This makes the $1.50 reward more wasteful, as the winning artists have worser odds of gaining more than $1.50 or they have to spend their own money. Even the store's monthly hidden coupon rewards $5, which is drastically more than the $1.50 that discord artists are rewarded for their win.

I suggest that this could be changed by one or more of the following:
  • Increasing the reward so it could actually be useful to buy items on the store, even if those items would only be wand effects or the cheapest hats. As mentioned before, $1.50 purchases nothing on the store.
  • Removing the 6 month expiry date, so participants can gather enough of a reward to purchase an item without spending their own money on the store.
  • Making more cheap store items, so that players can spend their rewards without having to gather multiple winnings.
  • Reverting back to the potterpoint reward system that was being used before.

Thank you for your time reading this post.

I think this is needed nonetheless, because one and a half dollar is really little. At least with PPs, you could've hoarded it but now the money reward becomes useless.

I don't get the expiry date. Same goes for arena.

Honestly I think this is the easiest solution. I assume they might have some secret reasons why theyve made the change but the old system was so much better imo.

Alternatively, maybe make the store have a currency of its own. Or maybe even transfer PPs to the online store. Something like labymod store has (you can buy items with money or labymod coins, or reduce the price using the coins and paying the rest with money)

i also think the best solution is going back to the pp system, though i feel like it must have been changed for a reason? Anyway, I have been saving up potterpoints for ages and it's pretty frustrating that the ways of getting them are being removed in favour of something that basically forces you to spend money in order to benefit from it, it doesn't feel like a reward

I believe the change is something along the lines of PP being staff stuff/sales happening so gift cards are better

I also think arena is offering to refresh expired coupons if not used? (we still wernt sure on why they expire)

All these changes just feel like a cheap attempt to squeeze money out of competition winners.

Side note: Whats with all these rewards being in like micro amounts?? $1.50 for the art reward, $5 for the monthly coupon etc. Does the store team get like a $10/year budget? It's not surprising that only the same 4 people a month participate.

I wonder if everything will be changed to coupons in time, if the remaining potter points we have can be exchanged for them.
