Salutations everyone!
Over 2 months have passed since our live event, and we have one of our biggest development updates yet! We have a range of new gameplay mechanics that have enhanced our quest building, magical exploration, and Minecraft-adjacent gameplay. Without further ado, let’s jump straight in!
Note that builds and gameplay are not final
The above video is a showcase of some of the new features that we have developed since our live event, as well as some of the new builds. It might be hard to tell exactly what’s going on in each clip, so let’s review each feature in more detail:
Animated Mobs & Player Detection
All of our 2.0 mobs have custom animations using Model Engine, with different movements for attacking, walking, ambience and more. We’re also excited to introduce player detection - some mobs will not notice the player at first, and will enter a “searching” phase, during which you must choose either hide away or prepare for battle!
Magical World Exploration
In line with our 2.0 design principles, we wanted to fill our world with as many magical elements as possible. Through the use of more custom animations, further ambient movement such as enchanted instruments and dancing ghosts is now possible. We’ve also added a plethora of hidden passageways and secrets to the castle, with more on the way. It’s hard to get far within the castle without some sort of puzzle that requires magical intervention!
Tying this new exploration with our previous discoveries concept, new UI popups will be distributed throughout the world to celebrate new discoveries, demonstrated here with the entrance to Hogsend.
New Broom Flight Mechanics
Speaking of exploring the world in a magical way, we’re excited to reveal an entirely reworked broom flight system! Take flight with the casual flight mode that we are all familiar with, or drop click mid-flight to enter an elytra-style race mode - a much faster method of travel (and racing)! While in the racing mode, you can also right-click to activate a boost and propel yourself even faster.
Upgraded Quest Mechanics & UI
Another extremely exciting feature for this showcase is the significant upgrades to our user interface. The Development and Game Design teams have created brand new quest mechanics and an upgraded user interface for quest progression and dialogues, shown here through a small selection of quests and dialogues around the world.
One of our new introductory NPCs, Holly, brings another new quest mechanic from the Development team - NPCs that are able to follow and guide players. Holly is one of several characters that will accompany you through quests, guiding you where needed, and following you when you can explore more freely. The clip shown is a sample of our new introduction quest!
More Reimagined Builds
The build teams have been busy in Hogsend, Hogsworth, and Diagonal Lane filling interiors with all of our new models and blocks. Showcased in this video are various areas of the castle, with the Astronomy Tower being the latest to reach completion. You can also see a selection of our new shops in both Hogsend and Diagonal Lane, making use of detailed models and new textures for wallpaper, wooden trims, signage and shop products!
Summary
That’s a wrap for this update! With the foundations laid for 2.0, we’re only picking up pace. There are also a few features that we’re excited to share in a future update, but we’ll keep an oath of secrecy over those for now…
