Welcome to the Academics weekly assignment for the week of October 10th, 2021! These weekly assignments will give our Professors the ability to showcase some of their lesson ideas here on the website. Each assignment will be posted for a week, in which everyone will be able to read about the topic and respond to the assignment prompt. This week's assignment is "Ghoul Studies - Banshee,” created by Jenn (jenily).
The assignment is as follows:
A banshee is a female spirit that comes from Irish legend as an omen of death. It is believed that every family has their own banshee. Whenever a death in the family is approaching, they are known to scream as a warning. The sound is described as an intense shrieking that can be known to shatter glass and can go on for hours.
Typically, a banshee appears with long silver hair and red eyes from crying through the nights. She almost always is wearing a grey or white hooded cloak. It is known that she carries a comb with her, and is sometimes seen brushing her hair with it. Due to this, people fear leaving out their hair brushes, worried she may pay them a visit and a loved one would pass away. While a banshee is known to be an unlucky symbol, ultimately she is harmless.
One night, you are awoken from your sleep by a loud wailing sound. You look over and see a woman with long silver hair, crying and brushing her hair. You realize this is a banshee. What happens? How do you react? Are you able to keep yourself and your family safe?
