All About Our Past Valentine’s Events
Feature

Daily Diviner readers, the month of February is fast upon us! We have already said goodbye to the wonderful winter event in Togo that the game design team here at Potterworld put together. This means it is about time to welcome in their next incredible event: the Valentine’s event! You will be able to learn everything you need to know about this year’s event very soon, but some of you may be wondering what to expect. The game designers are always creating unique events, but we can look back at the Valentine’s events of years past to see what themes (and perhaps locations?) we might see this February.

The first Valentine’s event I will discuss in this article is from February 2019. This event was made with plenty of hard work and love, and had its own charm–literally. Players could earn the “Amor Vita” spell upon completing the love parkour course! The rest of the event included searching Hogsworth for love letters to trade for rewards, helping the house elf Blinky with various tasks, and earning plenty of Valentine collectables.

In 2020, Hogsworth students got to travel to the forested village of Underland to celebrate the holiday. Upon finding Valentine’s day canceled by the horrid Queen of Hearts, players were able to earn special items from Underland’s denizens and use them to defeat the Queen and reinstate Valentine’s day! Returning from 2019 was the Amor Vita parkour, and there were plenty of other minigames to enjoy. Players were also able to hunt for Cupid’s 100 hearts around Hogsworth to receive Cupid’s bow, and, of course, earn plenty of rewards and collectable items!

In 2021, the character Rayne brought Potterworld players into a storybook to explore the fantastical Enchanted Valley. It turned out that a traitor among the Fairytale Council had allowed Villains to invade, destroying the happy endings of beloved fairytale characters. By completing quests and activities, players were able to collect Storybook Pages and help the Fairy Godmother restore these happy endings! The event also included plenty of minigames and daily quests that revolved around popular fairytales, and, as always, lots of cool collectables. My favorites from this year are the scarves. Like socks, you can never have too many.

After restoring peace to the Valley, 2022 brought a Valentine’s event of mythic proportion! Upon traveling to Kalphos in Greece, we discovered the ancient gods that ruled were having a volatile Valentine’s, with interpersonal conflict and property destruction galore. Players were able to meet several of the gods, such as Aphrodite, and assist them with their issues while unlocking the different levels of Daedalus’ Labyrinth. This event gave players an incredibly important task: to repair Aphrodite’s statues! Oh, and defeating the Minotaur in the Labyrinth, of course.

Finally, we have the Valentine’s event of 2023! This uniquely scrumptious story took place within a board game: Candyland. Players traversed the board and met other magical folk who had been transported to the board, starting in the tasty Tootsie Town and moving through the minty Candy Cane Forest, the energizing Affogato Alpines, and the flavorful Frosted Food Fairgrounds before finishing at the grand Gumdrop Castle. This event was bright and colorful and oh-so-sweet, filled to the brim with tasty treats and amazing activities to flesh out Potterworld’s take on Candyland. For everyone whose Valentine love is more the sweets and less the love, this event was definitely made for you.

That is all of the Potterworld Valentine’s events we will be discussing today! These wonderful events were chock-full of stories, sweets, sweethearts, and fun. Every year, our wonderful game design team has gone above and beyond, and I’m sure you are all excited to see what they have come up with this year. You can definitely look forward to all the fabulous festivities of the holiday and more!

The Great and Glorious Guilds
Editorial
Written by Silquer
Edited by bluecherub

Hello my dear readers, and welcome to the Editorial column of the Daily Diviner! The player base of Potterworld has always been at the core of the server; everything the Potterworld staff team does is for player enjoyment. Staff has made a point to encourage player creativity over the years, and player-made groups are no exception! It is no surprise then that a little over a year ago, the Staff team released Guilds, a feature that allows players to make and join custom groups. Now that players have had time to mess with the Guilds release and all that it means for the server, let’s take a look back at where it started and where it is now.

The first question that comes to mind is: where did the Guilds release begin? It all started around eight years ago in a Potterworld podcast! Droobledore mentioned the guild feature being in the works, and since then, it was quietly worked on in the background. However, it was not until April 24, 2022, when Guilds was officially released to the server. As of that announcement, guilds have been a part of Potterworld, and they have played a role in how the community engages with each other.

The release introduced all of the features that are currently available for guilds. There are plenty of options to tailor your guild to your needs! Each guild is completely customizable; you can choose the guild name, create cool prefixes for members, and share a guild bank account (for better or for worse). There are also different ranks, from Owner to a simple Member. I encourage you to log on, check out all of the different options, and get creative with them! Or, if you are already in a guild, you can appreciate the customization that your guild already has to offer.

Guild chat is another feature prominent to guilds. Guild chat allows you to have your own private chat for members only! My favorite feature in chat is the ability to customize the color of the guild messages. My current guild uses the rainbow chat, adding a colorful splash to our conversations.

How does all of this affect the playerbase? In the past year, this feature has seen many different uses, and with the versatility of options, guilds have filled many different roles. Some of the biggest guilds are roleplay-oriented, especially with the privacy that guild chat offers. Roleplay families have made guilds just for members of the family, like The Cresswells and The Solastrials. Guilds have also been used to unite competitive players, like The Flyers Alliance.

Guilds can also be used for any sort of player organization, from student-run tournaments to unofficial writing or build competitions. The sky is the limit for Guilds; there is still plenty of untapped potential!

After many years of anticipation, it is lovely to have this feature added just for the players. Go give some love to the guild system, and test it out if you have not already! Let's show the Staff team we appreciate all of the work they have put in and support Guilds wherever they go next!

A Toy to Heal Your Inner Child
Server Spotlight
Written by Creme_de_Creme

Hello lovely readers and welcome back to the Server Spotlight column! Have you ever been to Hogsend? Some of you that studied at Hogsworth may remember the weekend trips to The Broomsticks Inn for the occasional butterbrew. Hogsend has been on the mend since Lord Valdemar’s attack a few decades ago and is once again flourishing. There are many shops to visit and places to see within this town, yet one of the most favored shops is Toymaker Tobias’s shop.

Tobias’s Build-A-Plush Workshop is located on the lower-east-end of Hogsend. Many magicals, both young and old, have fond memories of this shop and its owner. For many years, Tobias has been coming up with new and clever ways to make toys that magical children will love. In some cases, this has taken the form of toy soldiers that fight each other. In other cases, he crafts stuffed animals that return their hugs. All the toys available here have come from the generous mastermind of Tobias himself.

Tobias is known to be a very charitable man. Any gold that isn't used to keep the shop running or maintain his own humble way of living goes straight back into the community; and for such a successful business, his generosity has significantly impacted and improved Hogsend in boundless ways. Tobias is the man who keeps on giving. The only time he has not been seen with a smile on his face, or so the townsfolk say, is when asked about his heritage. They say he clams up and becomes paranoid. I did not have the heart to dig further, dear reader, after meeting him. Though, I did do a little research in case you would like to do some digging yourself.

Tobias hails from the Sevistian family, which is an old, immensely wealthy wizarding family. Not much is known about the Sevistians besides their wealth and prosperity, as they seemed unaffected throughout the wizarding wars. There is little information about Tobias in his younger years. As far as I could find, Tobias’s story begins as soon as he entered the toy-making business in his thirties. Since then, he has not stopped warming the hearts of children through his inventive knick-knacks.

If you have never been to Tobias’s Build-A-Plush Workshop before, I highly recommend it. A visit will heal your inner child, and I guarantee that you will walk away smiling and feeling cared for. See you next issue! This has been Creme_de_Creme reporting for the Daily Diviner.

Building Your House in the Potterworld Style
Lifestyle
Written by Creme_de_Creme

Hello lovely readers, and welcome to the Lifestyle column! Have you been looking to revamp your housing in a creative way, but you do not know where to start? Luckily for you, I have some tips to share. Here are the things you should know when building your house using the Potterworld Style:

Tip #1
When building a room, try to make the ceiling four or five blocks high. If it is lower, it makes the room feel cramped and uncomfortable. By making it four or five blocks high, you can use slabs to add ceiling beams to give the room more dimension! You will also have plenty of room to add pictures and banners to your walls. Use a different colored block to add a frame to your pictures!

Tip #2
Use contrasting colors for decor! If you use colors that are too similar, they will seem to blend into the ceiling and walls, thus making the room seem more dreary. More color gives the room more character and adds that special wow factor! Note that contrasting colors does not mean selecting colors that don’t match. It means selecting colors that are different enough from each other to not blend into the background. Start out by creating a block pallete, that way you have a place to start when it comes to which blocks and colors you want to use!

Tip #3
Add enough decor to make the room comfortable without cluttering it. In other words, you don’t want too many items on the floor, and the placement of the decor makes sense. Add some tables to give your decor a place to stay and keep the area looking tidy! If you think the room looks too empty, try adding some rugs! You can use different colors and create intriguing patterns.

Tip #4
Plan ahead of time what you’re going to build! You may want to have multiple floors, a secret underground area, or even a greenhouse. By planning ahead of time, you can maximize the space you are using. Try placing a template down first to give yourself a visual of where everything will go. To make your experience more immersive, try putting engaging and fun things in the sky such as a hot air balloon! Make sure you know where this will be going so as to not build your main structure in the way!

Tip #5
When planning, sometimes looking for inspirational pictures can help. It will give you an idea of what you like so that you can personalize your housing. This can be finding pictures online to looking at what others have done at their housings. Just be sure not to copy anyone and instead make it unique to you! When you figure out your likes and dislikes, you can start planning your housing from there including selecting a unique color palette!

There are many things you can do to revamp your housing to make it more fun and creative. These are just a handful of tips to aid you, but feel free to let your imagination run wild throughout the process. If you really enjoy building, consider applying for Jr. Builder on the Potterworld website! In the meantime, have a build-tastic day. This has been Creme_de_Creme reporting for the Daily Diviner
