The Event Process Explained
Feature
Written by snotflower
Edited by bluecherub

Welcome back to the Daily Diviner! One of Potterworld’s most exciting aspects is its events which are hosted throughout the year, bringing players to various locations to complete fun activities and collect unique rewards.

However, for many readers, the behind-the-scenes of events is shrouded in mystery. If you have found yourself wondering how events are made, read ahead for a peek into the process!

As with all things, events start as an idea. The story, character, and quests are all designed by the Game Design team who work immensely hard to bring new and exciting features.

From tricky puzzles to mysterious NPCs, they meticulously plan every aspect. This is a long and detailed process to ensure the event is balanced and interesting for all players, whether new or old.

Next, the Game Design team reaches out to other teams to help with the process. For example, the Build department does exactly as the name suggests—they build the event!

From the detailed exterior of massive castles to carefully-placed interior decor, they make sure everything fits together for a cohesive, atmospheric experience. The various parkour, dropper and other minigames are also made by the Build team!

Next, the Engineer team is responsible for the spells and mobs found in the event. This is seen in the form of battles, mob attacks, exclusive spells, and more! They work with the Magic and Mythic Mob plugins in order to create these exciting additions.

The NPC skins found throughout the event are all created by the talented Skin Arithmancer team who ensure each brings life to the character while keeping in line with Potterworld standards.

Finally, any new models are created by the Artworker team. Hats, wands, and pets are just a few of the Artworker-made items you can see throughout the server!

Once the event has been set up, it is thoroughly tested by the Grounds Keeper and Poltergeist teams. The Grounds Keepers are on the lookout for any bugs or errors to report. As Potterworld tech can be complicated, this is a crucial step so that players will not discover these bugs once the event is released!

The Poltergeist team also test the event, but they look at it from a player’s point-of-view. They check the difficulty and design, and they offer suggestions for aspects they believe could be adjusted or improved upon. They also play a part later on, as they relay player feedback about the event to the appropriate teams.

Finally, once the event is ready to be released, there is promotion! WizNetworkers plan and post any promotional material on Potterworld’s social media accounts. 2D and 3D Arithmancers create graphics and renders respectively for the WizNetworker posts and any other announcements.

The Store team sometimes plans special event-themed releases that can only be bought during the event period. Finally, the Daily Diviner often teases the event in advance and also writes the Special Editions, which are exclusive event issues and accessible as in-game collectables!

I hope this was an interesting peek into the behind-the-scenes of event creation! The designing, building, testing, and promotion of events is a long process that spans many departments, all with the goal of creating a fun and immersive experience for players. It is certainly worth it in the end! Thank you for reading. Have a magical day!

Arena - A Year in Review
Editorial
Written by Silquer
Edited by snotflower

Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Editorial column. We are nearing the end of the year at last, and it is time to begin reflecting on past months. Our attention is turned to the progress that has been made on Potterworld over 2024, and what better team to reflect upon than the Arena team of the Academics department! All four seasonal releases for Arena are officially out, so it is time to take a look back at the seasons and see how you can enjoy the most recent season!

Arena Season 1 Releases came out on January 25th. That feels like a lifetime ago now, but at the time, it was the start of a brand-new Arena year. The team started off strong with the implementation of new maps to enjoy, such as the Dormunstrad Sledding Course, added for sledding which was available at the time, and the Mushroom Forest Flying Course. With this season also came the brand-new Dueling Training Session. This is hosted by the Arena team often, so there should be no problem attending it if one is interested!

Finally, Mystery Polls were first introduced in that season, which allow players to vote on what the week’s Mystery Challenge will be. These are a great way for the community to engage with the challenges. The polls are hosted on the Arena Discord, which you can join to stay up-to-date with this information!

Arena Season 2 released on April 21st, ushering in the spring with new content. Two new maps were also added in this release, in addition to one revamped Flying course. There was also an update to the Arena Token Shop, rotating in old items that players could purchase. I wonder what the current shop looks like? You should go check it out! Additionally, in Season 2, the Training Sessions were added to the calendar and started to occur regularly alongside surprise sessions!

Arena Season 3 arrived on July 9th in the midst of summer, offering gameplay for players to enjoy during summer vacation. Although no new maps were released for this season, there were plenty of quality-of-life updates and interesting additions! The Arena Token Shop received a revamp that can be seen in the Arena Halls today, and, most importantly, this season featured the release of the Arena Training Rooms! This long hall has everything a duelist could desire: training dummies, solo dueling options, and new Arenas to duel in! This was a great addition from this season.

Finally, Season 4 was released only about a month ago on October 15th. So many maps were added and changes were made in this season that it would be difficult to summarize them all; instead, you can read about the updates on the forums here, as well as keep an eye out for future announcements!

Additionally, since the start of the season, there have been two tournaments: Dueling and Flying. What could be next? Although the other seasons have long concluded, Season 4 is still active and ready for players to participate! If you want to try your hand at a tournament, now is the time to dust off your wand and prep your broom. Otherwise, you will have to wait until next year!

I hope this encourages you to log into Potterworld and experience Season 4 for yourself! There are plenty of challenges, training sessions, and more for players to participate in. Keep an eye out on the Arena Discord and on the forums for more updates about tournaments and future seasons. Happy dueling!

Wanderlust Student's Guide to Studying Abroad
Server Spotlight
Written by Silquer
Edited by littledead

Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Server Spotlight column. The first semester of the academic year is coming to a close for Hogsworth students, and it is time to start planning for the next semester… and beyond! For many, this might include planning to study abroad. This guide will help you along your journey abroad.

Before one begins planning the logistics of the program, students must first start with the basics. There are a lot of things to consider. The trip may be costly and require lots of savings in advance, so plan ahead early. It is also important to choose the abroad program wisely based on academic and work-related interests. Is the school aligned with your career, and will it help you gain experience or internship opportunities? Or, if you are not concerned with future careers, is the school aligned with your values? Location is also important when considering where to study.

Once you have decided that you want to study abroad, are prepared to save money for the trip, and have a goal in mind for the program, it is time to look at the pros and cons of schools abroad.

To start is École du Monde Occulte, located in Toga, Africa. The school is a castle built into the cliff; most of it is outdoors! It can be quite hot here, and it does not get very cold. In terms of academics, this school is rigorous and not for those looking to relax during their study abroad experience. Students enter this school to become historians, and the academics reflect the intensity of the study. Monde Occulte is a small school; you will know everyone during your time here! This could be good or bad, depending on your preferences. Also, there is no Quabbleball, an important factor for those who love the sport. However, students get their own personal rooms, and they have a magical football game to replace Quabbleball!

Next on this list is Mahounoshiro, located in South Iwo Jima, Japan, an island off the coast of Japan. The castle lies atop the tallest mountain on the island, overlooking the beautiful scenery. The climate is mostly warm, and the area and castle residing in it are stunning. The academics are demanding, with intense coursework intended to challenge. Students are organized by year, which is a great way to make friends with wizards of the same age. Additionally, Quabbleball is available! However, temperatures fluctuate a lot, and the competitive nature of the school can be draining for students who are easily caught up in competing.

Next is Dormunstrad, found in southeastern Europe. This school is in a medieval castle full of mystery, settled on a cold lake in the mountains. Dark magic is a prominent study here, and it is much less competitive compared to the other schools despite its academic excellence. However, Unmagical borns are not allowed to enter the school. This makes the school unavailable for many students looking to study here. It is also extremely cold and not for those who enjoy warm weather. On the bright side, dueling is prominent in this school, and the teaching of dark magic can be good for students looking for an education in that discipline.

Finally, there is the unique Boreas Institute, a magical school situated in Cape Poinsett in Wilkes Land, Antarctica, located on the side of a glacier. This institute is not a traditional school; it consists of a month-long “magical camp session” that teaches a variety of skills related to the environment. Magical Creature Studies, Potions, and even Mermish are available courses. It is only one month, so if you’re looking for a longer abroad program, this may not be for you, not to mention the cold. However, the location is unlike any other (you get to live inside a warm glacier), and the academics are quite special!

Personally, I would study at the Boreas Institute. I have a love for the cold and would be happy to learn in the quiet of Antarctica; not to mention all of the unique skills! I hope this guide helped you and that you have a wonderful experience studying abroad. Happy studies!

What Family Side Dish Are You?
Lifestyle
Written by autumnngrace
Edited by LMNJ

Greetings, witches and wizards of Potterworld, and welcome to another edition of the Daily Diviner. In this article, I have created a quiz that will help you decide which family meal side best fits you! Just be sure to keep track of all your answers, as they will be the deciding factor.

1. Which one of these words best describes you?
A. Nostalgic
B. Funny
C. Adventurous
D. Smart
2. Of these four hobbies, which one of them suits you the most?
A. Collecting
B. Writing
C. Gardening
D. Baking
3. What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
A. Playing on a playground
B. Reading in your room
C. Taking a walk in the forest
D. Hanging out with your friends and cooking
4. You open a chest and the following items are in it, which are you taking?
A. A picture of you and your family from when you were young
B. An empty canvas
C. A pack of seeds that are currently in season
D. A first-aid kit
5. If you could choose one pet, which would it be?
A. Your childhood pet
B. A bunny
C. A kitten
D. A dog
These are all the questions that we have in this quiz. Whatever letter you have the most answers for will determine which family side you are. For example if you chose B, B, D, C, A the letter you have the most answers of is B, so you would look for the letter B in the test results. Does that make sense? Good! Now, let us find out which family side we are.

If you chose mostly A, then you are mac and cheese. You are a very nostalgic person, and find comfort in the things that remind you of your childhood. You would take a middle of the night playground run any day.

If you chose mostly B, then you are mashed potatoes and gravy. You are all around a funny and cool person to be around. You may really enjoy things such as reading and writing, and things that allow you creative freedom.

If you chose mostly C, then you are green beans. You love nature, and are not afraid to get your hands dirty. You probably enjoy hikes in the fall through the mountains, and love a good scenic view.

If you chose mostly D, then you are cornbread. You are probably the parent of your friend group. You have a natural instinct to take care of those around you, animals included, and are always there when someone needs you.

That is all that I have for today, so thank you for tuning in! If you enjoyed this article, be sure to keep an eye out, because you never know when another quiz could turn up. I hope to see you at the next edition, but until then I bid you farewell.
