Department Updates - November
Feature
Edited by Silquer
Welcome back to the Daily Diviner department updates! November was full of exciting things, from the huge server update to 1.18 to the recent release of the 2025 Winter Waltz. Read on for reports from the departments themselves!

Build - Winter Waltz & 1.18 Reviews

We've had a really busy few months in the build team working on two very big projects - this year's Winter Waltz school and reviewing all of our existing builds for any bugs caused by 1.18.

This year's Winter Waltz has been one to remember for the build team - we're just adding the tinsel to the trees and hanging the last baubles, but it has been a great success for the team. We had a relatively short time frame to turnaround the build due to the recent server changes, but the team has pulled together to produce a spectacular build. It captures the architectural style of the school's region extremely well, and we're excited to see it come to life for the event.

As we wrap up the Winter Waltz, we're continuing our 1.18 reviews and starting to turn our focus to plushie suitcases and 2026 event builds. While 2.0 was put on pause, we're also working behind the scenes to finish what we started with the Hogsend revamp, and plan to release this at some point in the future.

The other significant portion of the team’s work lately has been reviewing all of Potterworld’s builds for bugs caused by the upgrade to 1.18. This included the world map, quest builds, classrooms, arenas, minigames, housing sceneries and more. There were many bugs caused by the server upgrade, such as enchantment tables making the floor invisible, mushroom blocks turning to actual mushroom textures, and glass connecting to anything and everything! While we're sure some bugs are still out there to find, we’re proud of the progress that we’ve made, and the amazing efforts of the team. In the coming months, we will be continuing to work through reviewing our catalogue of builds made over the past 12 years.

Media - Store Releases, 1.18 Preparations, & Art Competitions

At the start of the month, the Store team focused on ensuring that everything store-side worked out smoothly with the 1.18 server upgrade. This included freezing players' voting streaks and updating the tech in a huge number of store items to ensure that the In-Game Store, hats, and broom appearances work as expected.

We also released the Wings & Wildflowers Store Releases mid-month. This included many amethyst-themed items, such as the Amethyst Dragon Wings and the Peony Flower Crown. It also came with the super popular Pet Bee that the 1.18 server upgrade allowed us to do!

Currently, the Store team is working on the December Store Releases! This will bring back our beloved seasonal holiday items. It will also introduce some exciting store items themed after this year's Winter Waltz event!

To celebrate the 1.18 server upgrade, we also released a Video Competition where players can make videos and post them on social media to participate! Read more here if you are interested in joining in: https://potterworldmc.com/threads/video-competition.17474/

Our 2D, 3D, and Skin Arithmancers have also been hard at work creating graphics, renders, and skins for the upcoming releases from various departments.

Finally, we relaunched the long-awaited Art Giveaway, which is now hosted quarterly. Would you like to participate? Make any form of winter-themed art and send it in the #quarterly-art-giveaway channel in our Discord server!

Game Design - Winter Waltz & Updates

We have a new emissive shader built into the pack that will allow specifically defined models to "glow in the dark!" You will notice these on things like the Plasma Blades and your wand glow tips!

We are working on using some new tech to allow future mods to have a full suite of animations! This will allow us to custom make mobs that have variations in their attacks and add new movement animations and death animations!

We will be soon releasing the Winter Waltz Event for this year and we are excited to share a new school with you!

The design team has also been working on ideation for the revamp of future professions and careers, more info about that soon to come!

Technology & Development - 1.18 & Testing

This month we released the 1.18 update after over four years of work! We were extremely happy with how the maintenance process went, and the subsequent bugs and cleanup that followed from it. We recommend you read our release post for more information about the process and a more thorough reflection!

With the return of Housing last week, we have now finished up a majority of our migration chores and can begin exploring new 1.18 features to add to Potterworld.

We would like to extend a thanks to all the staff who assisted with the update and pre-and-post maintenance work, as well as all the players who have reported bugs to us. We hope you're all enjoying 1.18!

In the background of the 1.18 upgrade, the Grounds Keepers have also been hard at work testing the 2025 Winter Waltz Event. We've thoroughly enjoyed testing this event, and are excited for players to experience various gameplay elements ranging from the fan-favourite advent calendar, to new and exciting team activities!

With the bulk of the 1.18 upgrade chores complete, we have turned our attention to helping the Game Designers set up the Model Engine plugin. This allows us to animate and bring our world mobs to life on a whole new level. Your first chance to grab a glimpse at these new mob mechanics will be in the November store releases pets, the Pet Pyrkaon Pup and Pet Talamyros, which now have an advanced idle, walking, teleportion and despawn animation. We hope you enjoy these and look forward to adding them to more places on the world!

These are all the updates the departments shared for November. Thank you for reading, and look forward to next month’s updates!

Style in Store
Editorial

Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Editorial column of the Daily Diviner! The final quarter of the year has brought along some magical store releases. If any of these passed you by, now is the time to look back and explore what the past few months have to offer for your window-shopping or wardrobe needs!

The Crimson Store Releases arrived on September 1st and, as the name suggests, the three items in this release are vibrant red. The Ladybird Mount, which brings to mind the past Spring Event in Fairy Grove from 2022, is a whimsical way to travel! The Thunderbolt Wand is fierce, with bright red electricity flowing from the wand at all times; it’s the perfect wand for intense duels. Just like its blue counterpart, the Red Lantern Warp Key will guide you along any path. Naturally, these items are for those who want to add to their red collection, or perhaps for those wardrobes that need a bit of color.

The Autumn Store Releases ushered the season in on October 1st. These new items (and a new bundle!) embody the autumnal palette, which arrived just in time for many places in the Northern Hemisphere. The Phoenix Staff is a golden wand for those who embody the fierce and loyal nature of the Phoenix. The Pet Hedgehog is a loyal and adorable friend, and its small legs will not stop it from keeping up with any adventure! The Headphones Bundle features several different colored headphones that can match with any outfit, making it a great addition to any music-lover’s ensemble. This release is perfect for those seeking warm autumnal colors or cozy outfits.

The Wings & Wildflowers Store Releases was released in the middle of November. The Pet Bee is the newest adorable addition to the pet lineup and a faithful companion to buzz around throughout your journeys. The Amethyst Dragon Wings are fearsome and beautiful; anyone soaring through the skies with these wings is sure to catch some eyes! The Cosy Bundle includes some beloved classics, now in one place: the Blue Lantern Warp Key, The Moon Wand, and the Pet Owl. Together, these items will keep the cold away. Overall, this release is perfect for bringing the soul of summer into your Potterworld adventures, no matter the weather.

The Store team never fails to create new and creative cosmetics for the server! Whether you are buying or simply admiring the pretty cosmetics, which of these is your favorite? How would you wear these cosmetics? Make sure to keep an eye out for future releases. Happy styling!

The Update to 1.18!
Server Spotlight
Written by TheFallenPrince
Edited by LMNJ

Finally after four years of work, the Potterworld team has released the major 1.18 update! There have been a lot of changes with this new update, including new features, gameplay improvements, and bug fixes that make playing Potterworld better than ever! After so long, it's nice to see it finally reach all the witches and wizards who have been waiting patiently over the years.

Moving to 1.18 has caused a lot of changes and new adjustments for all of us. One of these changes is the revamped spell point system, which replaces the old system with something new. Players now have a clearer way to manage their magic, making spellcasting easier than ever!

The new spell point system has removed the old traditional gear and experience system, shifting the focus to new mechanics that emphasize skill and strategy over stat gear. We also added a new feature called the Spell Book, giving players a way to track spells and complete quests. 1.18 has given the team so many new possibilities compared to the old version. The update also added a few small but necessary bug fixes and changes to some of the different gameplay mechanics. One of these changes is the improvement of the racing game modes, which now function more smoothly and offer a better competitive experience while working a bit differently than before.

To get a better sense of how all the players on the server feel about this new adjustment, I reached out to a few people from the main Discord server for some feedback. The first being a newer player to the server and another being a long-time veteran of over 10 years! When asked about their favorite addition in the update, Player 1 was thrilled about the new Year Up system, noting that "it makes it easier going through the years instead of grinding it for hours."

Player 2, on the other hand, was more excited about the new version itself, highlighting how it opens up new creative possibilities and makes the server more accessible for newer players. They also shared their support for removing gear and experience, calling it "a huge step in the right direction."

Regarding the new spell point system, Player 1 admitted it was strange at first, especially since they advanced two years very quickly given the new graduation system, but they now enjoy it because "it feels a lot easier and simpler than what we were doing before."

Player 2 hasn't yet had the chance to fully test the system, saying they can't wait until the new prestige system is released so they can fully test it themselves. They also advised new players to focus on exploring, learning the spell book, and getting to know the other players on the server.

It's been exciting seeing all the witches and wizards exploring the new features and changes to the server with plenty of new things to discover. The removal of gear and the introduction of a new spell system was a much-needed change and the new update definitely opens a lot more doors for the future of Potterworld and its team.

We are thankful for all the effort and passion the development team has put into this update for all of us. I'd like to thank the team for all their dedication and hard work. I encourage all players, whether new or returning, to explore it themselves and remember to have a magical day.

Let's Get Shopping for Gifts
Lifestyle
Written by LMNJ
Edited by snotflower

“Oh no! It’s almost the holiday season and none of my gift shopping is completed or even started!” That’s probably what you said before finding this guide… Hello everyone and welcome back to another amazing Lifestyle article. Today we will be discussing what to buy for the upcoming holiday season and where to buy it! You, the reader, might have noticed that Potterworld has quite a few places where you can shop. Don’t feel intimidated—this article will guide you in the right direction to help you make the most out of your gift buying experience!

Do you have friends or family or any type of loved one who loves to joke around with you? Or maybe they are a bit mischievous and love to prank people. Well, there are two perfectly crafted stores in Potterworld that sell the perfect gifts for them! Diagonal Lane in London is home to a fun store named Wacky Wizarding Wonders Joke Shop. Here, you can find gag gifts and toys. Another store similar to this one is Jasper’s Joke Shop in Hogsend, located conveniently next to Honeysweets. You can buy dung bombs, magical coins, and even omnioculars!

Now for your pals that enjoy something to eat! Honeysweets, which is next to the previous Jasper’s Joke Shop and the cozy Broomsticks Inn, is the perfect place for all things, well, sweet. They sell Queasy Candies, Stunning Sweets, Bernie Bellie’s Multi-Flavored Jellies, and SO much more! Next, just take a short walk through the center of Hogsend, the glorious town that seems to always be covered in snow, and you will find the small Chocohop shop. This is a great spot for buying a chocolate frog, which comes with a collector card of either a location in Potterworld, a famous wizard or witch, or the wizarding schools. Many Potterworld students love to collect these cards and have lengthy collections.

None of these stores have what your gift receivers are interested in? Don’t worry! We have two final stores. These are great if you are not really on a budget. Both stores are conveniently located only a short walk from each other in Carket Market in London. The first stop is at Shutterbutton’s. You can get yourself or a friend a camera! This camera allows you to collect beloved photos of your pals. The next store is called Accordion and Plunck Musical Instruments. This quaint shop sells a variety of musical instruments from ocarinas and ukuleles to pan flutes!

Hopefully one of these many stores we discussed is the perfect spot for your gift buying needs! Thank you to all you beautiful and intelligent Daily Diviner readers for reading this issue's Lifestyle article! Stay tuned for the next issues and hopefully we will get to meet again very, very soon! Have an amazing holiday season and enjoy opening all of your gifts to come. Bye, bye, bye!
