Department Updates - February
Feature
Edited by Silquer
Welcome back to the Daily Diviner department updates! From Store Releases to Build’s many projects, there are some exciting things to share. Read on for each report from the departments themselves!

Academics - Extra Credit and New Classes on the Horizon
Over the last few months, we began announcing Extra Credit assignments and the Academics Hall Claw Machine when they are updated. We have recently hosted a Valentine’s themed 12 Hours of Classes!

We are looking into expanding the Academics Taskboard to feature more of the classes currently hosted often. The Academics team is currently working on a way to make Extra Credit assignments more engaging! Watch out for more info soon.

The Academics and Class Design teams have worked on a few miscellaneous Wizard's PE bugs to hopefully make it a more enjoyable experience. Some jumps may seem different on 1.18 + 1.21 compared to 1.10, however we have tested and they are still possible despite different client-side animations.

The Class Design team are releasing a few new interactive classes in the coming months, with more still in progress! This includes, but is not limited to, classes for Art, Ghoul Studies, Magical Events and a Potions update!

Build - Plushie Suitcases, Build Hammer & Relaunching projects
We recently finished the Valentine’s plushie habitat for the GD department, providing a cozy home for our swan within the Enchanted Valley town. We also have just completed a scenery for the Store team!

We're currently working on an Academics classroom revamp and created some giant instruments for our Class Design team. We’ve just relaunched Hogsend back up, refreshing our existing interiors with our new 1.18 blocks, textures and new models from our build hammer!

Community Management - Expeditions
Through February we've been working on three brand new expeditions for the first half of 2026, and we're excited to see these concepts coming to life! The first one that we're preparing is called Chronobreakers, and will be hosted during March 2026. We hope to see you there!

Media - Store Releases, Valentine's Day, & Event Preparations
This month, we released our Valentine's Day Store Releases & Sale! It introduced the new Wedding Emotes and a one-week sale on love-themed items. It also brought back our seasonal Valentine's items until March 20! The Skin Arithmancers have also been hard at work and wrapped up the work on skins used in the ongoing Valentine's event!

We are currently working on implementing the March store release. The Store team has also been planning for the April store release!

The Artworker team has also been hard at work this month. They are currently working on making a heap of new models for this year's upcoming events. Alongside that, they have continued working on plenty of models for our revamp of the world!

Our 2D Arithmancers have continued working on graphics for the Store team and WizNetworkers. The WizNetworkers have also made a few posts for the Store team and Academics.

February has been a quiet month, but the departments are hard at work! The Valentine’s event was just released and will run until March, so now is the perfect time to start playing. Stay tuned for next month’s department updates!

A Day in the Life of Potterworld Staff
Editorial
Written by yakko__
Edited by Silquer

Have you ever wondered what being a Potterworld staff member is like? Wonder no more, because I’ve interviewed two of our wonderful staff members to get the scoop!

Welcome, Athena and Kate! What departments and positions do you work in, and how long have you been on staff?
Athena: Academics Department, Arena Master, and I’ve been on staff since September 20th, 2024.
Kate: My role is a Senior Game Designer. I've been back on the team for about 6 months, but I have around 5 years of collective experience on the staff team!
What kind of work do your positions entail?
A: As an Arena Master, I'm responsible for hosting and helping with Arena Related activities and projects.
K: I work on various projects within the Game Design team, including events and new exciting world content!
How long do your projects take, on average? How much time do you usually spend working on Potterworld related things?
A: In Arena I usually spend a few hours hosting and taking some time after challenges to address bugs related to Arena.
K: In Game Design, the length of a project can vary greatly. Events are usually worked on for 3-6 months in total, whereas smaller projects may need less time. For large-scale projects like Professions, those usually take longer as well. For example, I've been working on Potions since November and we just released the first teaser in January!
What projects are you currently working on?
A: Arena as a whole is one big project that always presents new challenges, some more urgent than others. All from creating quality of life for the hosts to make hosting more seamless, to releases of maps and game modes and even the smaller things like shop releases.
K: Right now, I am the primary game designer working on the new Potions Profession system that we teased a few weeks ago. Other than that, I am helping with upcoming events and other small projects for the server!
What is your favorite project you’ve done for PW?
A: I have 3 favourite projects I've had the pleasure of doing on PW! My first ever project being re-imagining the spreadsheet we use for racing game modes. The other would be our newest additional game mode to the Arena being TriBattles, challenging players in various of our other game modes. And lastly is the expeditions I worked on as a former Curator, both the Colourful Spirits Festival and the Pirates of the Galaxy!
K: Potions has quickly become one of my favorite bits of content I've done for the server, because it's so dynamic and interactive and just SO FUN! I'm so excited for players to try each of the professions once we release them, they're going to be such a great addition to Potterworld! Other than that, I've done some fun event content like the Cafe Cruise minigame from Pride 2024, Think Fast from Halloween 2023, and Dream Weaver from Valentines 2024. I also think back to the very first event I worked on, Winter Waltz 2018 at Beauxbois, because it was a wonderful introduction to game design and fantastic event overall!
What do you find most difficult about your role?
A: The most difficult thing for me is dealing with the unexpected. A participant leaving in the middle of a challenge, finding a map to be unusable or a player acting up. Addressing feedback can also be rather difficult as we are a department that can do our own things, but are also reliant on builds from the Build Team or Tech like our spells and brooms from the Tech team. We also need to consider how we address feedback as we represent the team as a whole, and what I say also means what the team has said.
K: In GD, sometimes we have very tight deadlines to finish content so it releases on time, which can sometimes be a struggle. GD is also very time consuming because it takes a long time to create large pieces of tech, so time management is vital within the team.
What is your favorite aspect of your role?
A: My absolute favourite thing about being an Arena Master is being able to provide an experience to the players. Be it those that wanna battle it out with Wands or Plasma Blades or those seeking to beat their own goals on a flying, star racing, rafting or sledding map! To me it's important that no matter if you're an expert or never touched a broom, that you feel welcomed, and allow yourself to keep trying.
K: My favorite part is definitely creating fun new content for players to improve their Potterworld experience! We have a lot of ideas in the works to improve the server right now and I’m so excited to get them released. Although I can’t say much, I’ll say that 2026 is going to be a very exciting year for Potterworld!
Wow! Though the work you both do is very different, you both do so much to make positive player experiences and keep everything on the server running smoothly. Thank you for the awesome insight into your roles and what it’s like to be on the staff team, and an extra-extra thank you for all of the hard work you put in to make Potterworld truly magical.

2025 Expeditions Revisited
Server Spotlight
Written by Silquer
Edited by Calliequeen

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to the Daily Diviner! The Curators recently re-hosted all of their 2025 Expeditions, treating players to a final chance to play all of the Expeditions they may have missed or left incomplete.

In the past, one Expedition would be held repeatedly throughout the week at different times to allow as many players as possible to participate and complete it; however, in January 2026, the Curators brought back all Expeditions over a one-week period! In case you missed this crazy week of Expeditions, here is a rundown of how a few from that week went.

The first Expedition I attended was the The Labyrinth of Magifaisteio on January 27th. It was originally hosted in December 2025 with the Winter Waltz event. The Curators brought us to the labyrinth’s entrance, where we would begin our mock trial. The Curators told us about the challenges we would be facing, and after a quick vibe-check, we entered the maze.

Each floor of the labyrinth required teamwork, from communicating which item was needed to keep the Flame of Virtue balanced on the first floor, to solving the riddle to enter the third and final floor. With time ticking down, this was certainly an intense experience; however, we were able to complete the trial together!

The second Expedition I joined was the Colourful Spirits Festival on January 30th, first hosted in June 2025. Upon arriving at the start of the hedge maze, we were tasked with choosing a flower whose color we would search for in the maze. I chose yellow, the Flower of Ideation and Inspiration, and ventured into the hedges to find the five essences in the maze.

Through winding paths and magical doors, all players spent the next hour in a frenzied search. Mazes can be vexing to many players, but it was much better to struggle with company than alone! Although this was a difficult one, the frustration was kept at bay thanks to the Curators guiding us along the way.

The final Expedition I set out on was Pirates of the Galaxy on January 31st, which premiered in September 2025. Upon boarding the Expedition’s boat with my fellow players and the Curators, we were interrupted on our journey by space-faring penguins! The penguins captured us and brought us to their spaceship. We needed to work together to escape our horrible cell before time ran out.

The penguins patrolled the ship as we made an effort to escape; thanks to some players watching the cameras, we (mostly) avoided re-capture as we ventured through the ship to find keycards to get us to the hangar bay and the ships that we could use as our escape. After completing several challenges in a desperate scramble against the clock, we escaped; but the penguins and their admiral promised revenge…

Besides these three Expeditions, four more were re-hosted throughout the week. Although it is too late to experience them now, there are plenty more to look forward to in 2026! The Curators are hard at work bringing players new collaborative experiences, and I can not wait to see what they are planning for us next.
