Department Updates - October
Feature
Edited by Silquer

Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Daily Diviner! This month, the departments have been busy, and three of them have something to share with you all! Read on to hear from the departments about the Winter Waltz build progress, more about the Wizencouncil merge, Store updates, and more!

Build - Winter Waltz 2026

October has been a busy month for the Build team, as we’ve been primarily focused on our new Winter Waltz School! We’ve completed the terrain and are putting the finishing touches on the exterior, while continuing to decorate the school's interiors with both standard furniture and holiday decorations. We’re also continuing to work on the small collection of 2.0 Academics and Arena lobbies.

We’ve finished updating all interiors in Hogsend, and have achieved this using our brand-new range of 2.0 models! We also progressed the new Potions classroom for the 2.0 Potions system release, which is now in the final stages of review before we pass it to Academics for implementation for the 2.0 update.

Across the full Hogsend project, we completed 126 interiors!

Community Management - Wizencouncil Merge

Read an exclusive interview with the Head of Community Management, Jake, about the Wizencouncil-Poltergeist merge in this article here.

Media - New Drooble's Order Feature & Spooky Times

The Store team started the month with the Lethal Legends Store Releases, introducing two new animorphi and two bundles fitting perfectly for any mythology lovers out there!

We rotated our seasonal NPCs in the In-Game Store to showcase some of our autumn and winter items. Explore them in the Miscellaneous Shop at the back of the In-Game Store!

We also implemented a way to allow Drooble's Order subscribers to choose whether they would like to use the seasonal or default prefix and player tag icons. These can be customised in the /subscriber menu, and you can mix in any way you would like!

The Store team is also working on the November store release. Without revealing too much, it will be a spooky release fitting those who are interested in the darker sides of magic!

Our WizNetworkers are working on GIFs for our store to make it even easier to preview certain items, including our animorphi. The WizNetworkers also released a new reel showcasing our Halloween Event. Be sure to check it out here if you have not already!

Thank you to the departments for sharing their work this month! Be sure to look for next month’s feature updates.

A Night at the Haunted Hallow
Editorial
Written by TheFallenPrince
Edited by LMNJ

As Halloween cast its spell on the Haunted Hallow, the town’s yearly celebration was going strong with costumes, candy, and just a hint of fear. I'm Miss Harper. Join me as I find out what’s going on and introduce you to those who bring all the horror fun to life!

Attendees even had the chance to design their own trick-or-treat bags in the bag-making station by decorating a bag with fun stickers and other decorations. Sabrina was assisting visitors with preparing their bags for the trail. After a brief moment of assistance with the distribution of trick-or-treat bags, I asked her what sorts of bags she made.

"I like to put a little of everything on there for each customer," she explained. "They love to add bats, pumpkins, and the colors they like."

Next, I was walking with Sam, following a line of children and adults dressed in costumes, as they were snaking along a wooded trail from one house to the next. Their trunks and bags filled up as they continued to ask Sam what makes this city so different.

"Everyone gets involved," Sam said. "And you never know what treat you'll get next!" The group cheered as they compared their growing collections.

At the candy stand, the challenge was a little different: gummy bears had been let loose around the Hallow, and participants raced to catch them. Laughter and shouts followed every slippery escape.

Nearby, Johnny Appleseed brought fun to the game of apple bobbing. I inquired about the sweet tradition.

"It is an old Halloween favorite," he said. "Some people are naturals. Others come up splashing, but everyone has fun trying."

At the graveyard, visitors played a ghost-busting game looking for and trying to grab the spirits. One player told me, "it is a little spooky, but the kids are having such a great time that you can't help joining in."

For a more serious scare, I met Benedict Blackthorn, the ghost leading Haunted Hallow's Paranormal Investigation Squad. The team explored eerie locations with ghost-hunting equipment, watching and listening for signs of the supernatural.

"We look for clues and try to figure out what kind of spirit might be nearby," Benedict explained. Had they found anything spooky? "Let's just say the graveyard has been unusually active tonight."

A visitor who joined the squad grinned. "I jumped at every sound but I'd do it again!"

From handmade bags and candy hunts to apple bobbing and ghost investigations, Haunted Hallow offered something for every Halloween fan. As the night wound down, Sabrina summed up the celebration: "It is all about having fun together and leaving with a little bit of magic.”

Interview with jake_ft: Wizencouncil Merge
Server Spotlight
Written by Silquer
Edited by gospojken

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to the Server Spotlight column! Recently, the Community Management department announced the merging of the Poltergeist and Wizencouncil teams. Poltergeists, originally part of the Technology & Development department, are now combined with Wizencouncil in Community Management. To learn more about the behind-the-scenes of this change, I spoke with the Head of Community Management, jake_ft (Jake).

What has the merging process been like behind-the-scenes? Are there any challenges or successes about the process you could share?
Jake: The merge has been a busy time for all of us and, with the refinement of processes, we've all had to learn bits of our new responsibilities (e.g. Poltergeists had to learn the support ticket processes and Moderation members had to learn suggestions processes. The fun part was discussing how we can take the best bits of the Poltergeist processes and the Wizencouncil ticket-tracking processes, and streamline these to hopefully make suggestions and feedback quicker! We've had the support of all other departments in getting out updated decisions to all of the on-hold backlog as well, so it has been a huge team effort.

Walk through a review of a suggestion: how is it reviewed, what happens if it’s accepted versus denied, and how has this changed with the merge?
Jake: We fully revamped the process as part of the merge, so this is still what we're getting used to, but it's going well so far! When a suggestion first comes in, we allocate it to a Wizencouncillor and start tracking it on our suggestions spreadsheet. We then leave a week-long grace period for any further comments from players to be added. After a week, we refer it to the relevant leadership team for review. Once the feasibility and opinions have been reviewed, we'll send out the leadership team's decision with an explanation. If it's placed on hold, we'll keep this on our tracking until it's completed and, if needed, will check in with the team when their internal ETA arrives to see if there are any changes to the progress or decision made. Once the decision has been delivered and any actions are complete, we keep the suggestion "open" on our tracking for a bit longer, just to make sure we pick up any further questions! If it all goes quiet, we archive it on our spreadsheet, but will get notified if the threads reopen. There are some screenshots of our tracking spreadsheet below if you're curious!

wizencouncil_stats2.png

What changes can players expect for suggestion systems in the future, and when?
Jake: We're currently developing our first feedback form for the new team structure, which aims to collect feedback for this year's Halloween event. We'll use our new feedback/suggestion tracking processes to collate key points from the form to take forward into future events!

Thank you to Jake for taking the time to share this behind-the-scenes! The team is absolutely in good hands, and they have a clear vision for the future. I am excited to see what the team will accomplish, and I hope you all have a new-found appreciation for the Wizencouncil’s work.

Journal Entry: Ghost Hunting 101
Lifestyle
Written by autumnngrace
Edited by LMNJ

Journal Entry #241, 2nd September 2018.

Today, classes started back at Hogsworth, and it was a bit of a snooze fest. Though, I did have a pretty good dinner before my evening classes. I was quite upset that they put me in an 8 p.m. class, but now that I’ve attended the first session, I’m actually excited for it. It’s called Ghost Hunting 101, and the professor stated that we would actually be doing investigations for assignments!

In our first session, we got to know each other with a fun little icebreaker where the professor had us toss a fake (I hope) thestry skull to each other. When you caught it, you had to answer a question and then ask another person a question. It was like playing hot potato, but with a skull and questions.

After we got all of that out of the way, the professor passed out EMF detectors and had us do our own mini-investigations as an entry assignment. The goal was to write down what we asked, and if the EMF changed or did nothing. It was pretty cool, and we all passed our sheets around afterwards to compare and read them.

While I was doing my assignment at first, there was no response at all, and I began questioning the afterlife altogether But then my stomach started hurting. Could it have been related to the spicy chicken I had in the Great Hall? Maybe, but for the sake of all things fun and paranormal, I’m going to say it’s unrelated.

I actually got really freaked out when I was asking my questions, and the EMF started lighting up because I swear I didn’t move it an inch. Purely for documentation purposes, the questions and responses were as follows:

“Hello? Is anything here?” Response: None.
“Can you hear me, or do I look crazy waving this thing around in thin air?” Response: None.
“Is anyone with me?” Response: None.

At this point, I was convinced it was all a scam, and I was going to have the most boring semester of my life. Until everything changed.

“Okay… did you like pickles? I really like pickles; did you like them?” Response: EMF level 5.
“Oh dear, okay, we like pickles. Did you like spicy food?” Response: EMF level 5.
“I’m going to assume that means you liked spicy food. Okay, I have an oddly personal question for you to answer. Is my stomach hurting because of the Cajun chicken I had earlier? Make the EMF drop to 1 for yes or keep it at 5 for no.” Response: EMF started flashing between levels 2 and 3.
“The professor is calling me back; I have to go. Hopefully, we will speak again soon.” Response: EMF level 5.

I think that meant that it wasn’t necessarily yes or no on the stomach pain, but I cannot be sure. Those are all of the questions I had time for before it was time to share our results. Everyone laughed at my questions, and that confused me because I like to think that my questions were all pretty valid, but whatever.

I got an O+ on my assignment, which was cool, and the professor thought that I did good with communicating because most of my other classmates did not get any responses. The professor liked that my assignment showed a ghost's personal preferences rather than surface-level stuff.

I will probably write another entry tomorrow after my next class, but I have to shower before bed, so I should stop writing now. Goodbye, dear journal.

Signed, Marianna Gergen.

Finding Joy in Potterworld
Staff Highlights
Written by Silquer
Edited by gospojken

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to Staff Highlights! It is once again a pleasure to present two new interviews for you all to enjoy. Read on for Creme_de_Creme and _ForeverNox_ to share their time on staff.

How long have you been on the staff team?
Creme_de_Creme: I have been on the staff team for about 5 years.

_ForeverNox_: I joined the staff team in June 2025, so about a year and a half at this point. Time really does fly!

What made you interested in joining the staff team?
Creme_de_Creme: I wanted to contribute to a server that gave me a lot of joy to play on as a player.

_ForeverNox_: I’ve been a member of the community for a long time, and I wanted to give back. I started out as a Jr. Prefect because I like helping people and wanted to ensure the community that welcomed me remained welcoming for everyone. I hadn’t considered joining the Build team until someone asked me if I ever thought of applying and encouraged me to do so.

What are your current staff roles?
Creme_de_Creme: I am currently a Sr. Professor and a Prefect!

_ForeverNox_: I’m a Sr. Prefect in Community Management, and an Architect on Build.

What type of work do you do in your positions?
Creme_de_Creme: In my roles, I teach classes and act as a moderator.

_ForeverNox_: As a Sr. Prefect, I focus on helping players, resolving support tickets, and ensuring that the rules are followed in-game and on our Discord server. As an Architect, I mostly work on the back-end with other builders to complete projects, make builds for 2.0, independently execute smaller projects, and fix build related bugs.

How much time do you approximately spend on your staff responsibilities each week?
Creme_de_Creme: I tend to spend about 6 hours a week on the server completing my staff responsibilities.

_ForeverNox_: This is a difficult question to answer, because it really depends on the amount of spare time I have during the week. At some points I’ve reached 40 hours, but more commonly it’s around 12-20 hours, mostly working on builds. There’s never really an “off-season”; there’s always something that needs to get built or someone who needs help!

What do you enjoy the most about your roles?
Creme_de_Creme: I love being able to help players by answering questions they may have about quests or even answering tickets. I also love teaching classes.

_ForeverNox_: Probably helping people and the reactions when people see new build projects get released. I always love seeing other people happy and enjoying the things that I like, so these roles fulfill that, whether it be through gameplay or seeing the end result of the builds we spend so long to create.

What do you find most challenging with your roles?
Creme_de_Creme: I honestly do not think that there is anything particularly challenging about the roles themselves, but rather balancing my IRL responsibilities with Potterworld.

_ForeverNox_: The biggest challenge is time, but this mostly applies to building. Especially working on 2.0 and larger projects, it can be difficult to budget the time to work, and these projects often run long due to the amount of iteration the team does.

What is a favourite memory you have made during your time as a staff member?
Creme_de_Creme: Some of my favourite memories are getting to have fun with fellow staff members running around the SAD Maze, attending the SAD Talent Show, testing out ideas for games through tech, hosting Community Engagement events, and even attending TBAs.

_ForeverNox_: Most of my favorite memories come from the long hours working on 2.0 projects. Although, I think my favorite memory, if I had to only choose one, came from one of our Community Management hangouts where we played Death by AI and found out that eating ice cream will let you survive in any situation–which should definitely apply in real life.

Is there anything more you would like to say to those reading this interview?
Creme_de_Creme: I hope you continue to find joy in creating your own fun on Potterworld!

_ForeverNox_: It’s such a joy to be a member of this community, and I’ve loved watching the server evolve! If you’re looking to get involved in making the magic happen, I highly recommend applying to the staff team; we can never have enough help!

I hope you learned something new about the staff team! It is always inspiring to hear from our dedicated staff. Stay tuned for the next issue’s Staff Highlights!
