A Talk With Matt
Feature
Written by Silquer
Edited by MamaDuckie

Hello readers, and welcome to another issue of the Daily Diviner! For this article, I’m going to briefly discuss the newest roleplay event, as well as recount an interview I had with the intriguing Chief Aurorlock Matt! Before we talk about the interview, let’s go over the new roleplay event and what it means for Potterworld.

The event will begin on August 21st, and will delve deep into Matt’s various memories. Starting from his childhood, the memory walker will provide players the opportunity to follow Matt as he enters the Ministry, endures Shakti’s reign, and becomes Chief Aurorlock. It will surely be an exciting event, and will reveal a new perspective on the Ministry.

To commemorate the release of the event, I had the pleasure of interviewing the Chief Aurorlock Matt himself. Here are his detailed responses!

Why did you become an Aurorlock?
Matt: I became an Aurorlock because I saw a lot of injustice in the world. Long ago, when I was much younger, I witnessed some horrific things that scarred me. I wanted to bring help to those who wanted it, and safety to those who needed it. Most of all, I wanted to protect everyone as best as I could. I like to think that I made a difference. Being Chief Aurorlock is a huge honour, and a step along the journey to that goal.

What’s your favorite memory from your time as an Aurorlock?
Matt: I think the memory that will stay with me most, throughout everything, is becoming the Chief Aurorlock. For me, it shows that determination and hard work can get you wherever you need to go. It symbolises change, a new chance to fulfil my goals. Most importantly, it gives me the chance to protect everyone and make a difference. I cannot wait for the future and what it may bring. That, and the day I joined the Aurorlocks and met the team. That was the start of everything for me.

Do you have any significant plans for the future of the allegiance?
Matt: Ultimately, I want to rebuild the trust that the people once had in us. For far too long we have been seen as neglectful and uncaring, the 'bad guys.' I want to change that. I want to work towards my goals, rebuilding the Aurorlocks, and regaining that following and support that we once had. I know that it's not going to be easy, far too many people were hurt by our past. I hope that people will see that I am willing to make changes to help look after our communities. Together, we are strong.

With those final words, the interview is concluded! I hope these answers helped give you a better understanding of the Chief Aurorlock. Even as we enter the past and look into Matt’s memories, his responses give a sense of hope for the future! A sincerest thank you to Matt for his time and detailed answers!

After reading Matt’s thorough answers, I am confident that the roleplay event will be interesting to explore, and will certainly shed new light on recent events. I highly encourage players to enter the memory walker, and hope everyone will get excited for the future of the allegiance with me!

The Future of Events
Editorial
Written by Melioraa
Edited by MamaDuckie

Greetings Witches and Wizards, and welcome back to the Daily Diviner! My name is Rani, and I’ll be bringing you this issue’s editorial article. Towards the end of last month, the Game Design department saw the introduction of a new role - the Magiventologist! In today’s article, we’ll be taking a look into what this role is and what they do. In addition, myself and a special guest will reveal what our favourite events are, and what we think future events will include. With that, I believe the first thing we need to address is what this new team is!

The new position, formerly known as SOCCS, is a new sub-department of Game Design that will focus on the creation of events for the server. Their duties will include creating storylines and implementing the events themselves, which before the release of Revelius fell to the Unspeakables! Currently, the team holds a total of nine members; Aria_Rin, Maddinq, Crestilia, Swannyyy, Katalight, JustMaxHell, Queeeni, Sorcellerie, and Miss_Strudel.

Having the Magiventologist role means that there will now be a specialised group of personnel working on creating more in-depth storyline and gameplay. Things will be changing! With that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at past events in the history of our server as well as discuss what we think future events will be like! As for our special guest, I’m joined by fellow Daily Diviner team member and Lead Producer MaggieChi. Let’s see what we both had to say!

Rani: So, in regards to past events that we've seen and been too, which one would we say is our favourite and why?

Maggie: I'd have to say my favourite event that I've seen on Potterworld in the past four years was the 2020 Pride event. I say this because I loved all of the LGBTQ+ representation that stemmed from the event and the collectables were adorable. It was overall a well-rounded event that I enjoyed every minute of.

Rani: That makes total sense! For me, it’s very difficult to choose a favourite event. I think each one brings almost like a new and incredible atmosphere while it’s happening and so it makes it hard to choose. But, out of all of the events I’ve been to I’ve got to either say the Saint Patricks Day event back in 2018 as it’s when I first started being active in the community or the 2019 Christmas event. That was fun!

Rani: In regards to future events the team will create, I think that it will have more of a developed storyline as they’ll be focusing purely on events. While the past events have been fun, I’ve noticed that the recent ones have all been based on farming mobs, and while I’m not too sure about you, Maggie, I like a balance between storyline and farming mobs. What about you?

Maggie: Yeah, I get you. I don't know what I hope for in terms of the content of upcoming events, but I do know that I cannot wait for the Christmas event. I've been in a very Christmas-y mood lately, so I'm already very excited to see what they'll do for that one this year.

Rani: Oh yeah! I wonder if the staff dance will be making a come back this year too, it might be something to look out for!

And with that, we have reached the end of this edition’s editorial article! Thanks to the creation of the Magiventologist role, events on the server will change for the better. I’m sure we all can’t wait to see what the team members will bring to us in the future! Additionally, I’d like to give a big thank you to Maggie who let me discuss this with her and hope that you all enjoyed reading, too. For those interested in joining the new events team, applications are currently open on the forums. We look forward to seeing all the new faces and what you guys will create. Have a good one guys!

Hidden Minigames
Games and Sports
Written by thatgirlskyyy
Edited by CelloIsMyLife

Greetings Potterworld players! As you may have noticed within the past few weeks, the parkour and mazes that were previously found in the Ministry of Magicians have been relocated. Instead of being jam-packed in the Games and Leisure section, they are now spread throughout the map. On top of that, changes were made within the minigames themselves. Game tokens were turned into gold during Revelius maintenance and later removed from Potterworld completely. Shortly after Revelius was released, the parkour and mazes were reintroduced. Their arrival added new features while removing some rather confusing and unnecessary game elements.

One of the most prominent changes to the parkour and mazes is how they have been placed in areas that match their theme. Before Revelius, players could simply warp to the Ministry of Magicians and choose from a variety of mazes and parkour. Now you must go out and find them. Take The Veil Parkour for example: It is set deep within the Department of Magic and finding it is a challenge in itself. To reach this parkour, you must travel through a certain combination of doors within the Department of Mystery. If you get lost, the parkour could become a maze!

Another noticeable change is how the reward for finishing is gold now. Before Revelius, these minigames gave out something called game tokens. Game tokens could be traded in for gold and other items at a clerk nearby. Now, instead of having to exchange game tokens for gold, you immediately get gold. This change was put in place to make it more convenient for players. The amount of gold given is based on the difficulty of the maze or parkour. The shorter parkour and mazes, such as The Lost Toad Parkour, reward around 2 gold each. However, ones like the Treasure Maze reward up to 100 gold. But it’s important to remember that cooldowns have increased in these minigames. After you finish a maze, the cooldown for entering them can range from 1 hour to 1 day. When it comes to parkour, there is a cooldown for entering but not finishing. In other words, you can finish the parkour multiple times while you are in the minigame, but once you leave, you can’t go back in for a while.

I decided to interview KLVC19 who is known as a “parkour goddess” within her friend group. She completed the underwater mazes in The Guardian Challenge in under five minutes! Since she is so passionate about mazes and parkour, we wanted to get her opinion on the updated minigames.

How has the change in location of the parkours and mazes affected your gameplay?

“I find that the new locations allow for exploration and it’s enjoyable to look for them. They also are set up in places that make sense for each theme, which is nice.”

What are your opinions on the implementation of cooldowns?

“The cooldowns can be annoying sometimes because you may want to go somewhere right away. However, they do encourage exploration while you wait, and I’ve enjoyed running around finding new things in that time.”

In your opinion, which is the hardest maze or parkour? Which is the easiest?

“The Treasure Maze is the hardest in my opinion since it has many elements such as invisible mazes and multiple levels. The Lost Toad Parkour is the easiest since it’s short and doesn’t have many difficult jumps.’

Do you think the amount of gold rewarded matches the difficulty of the parkours and mazes?

“I think in most cases the gold is a good amount, but sometimes it’s a bit low. For example, The Treasure Maze is really difficult and should reward more gold, but The Lost Toad Parkour has an adequate prize for its difficulty.”

What is your favorite maze/parkour? Why?

“My favorite is the library maze since it’s difficult and also includes parkour at the end. It’s two challenges in one!”

The DD team would like to give a huge thank you to KLVC19 for her time and dedication to exploring all aspects of the Revelius update. After all, that’s what the Revelius update is all about: exploring and embracing change. The cooldowns, gold, and relocation will take some getting used to, but we assure you that these modifications are for the better and are here to stay. With that being said, make sure to check out the minigames in their new homes! Challenge yourself to guess where the minigames are without using the map. Maybe you can even search for them with a friend! We hope you enjoy these changes and most importantly, have fun!

Magical Party Decor & More!
Lifestyle
Written by Carolyn
Edited by ShaneChi

Hello witches and wizards and welcome to another one of my lifestyle articles! In this article, I will be discussing magical party decor, as well as other exciting topics in that realm! Sometimes, it can be a pretty tricky thing to figure out what captivating additions to make to a party. What vibe are you going for? What qualities would the guests appreciate? Really, what will make this gathering the most fun? The possibilities are truly endless. I’ve chosen quite a few spells, and when to use them, that will definitely make your party stand out! Remember to keep this in the back of your mind, take notes, or return to my guide in a few months when the time has come for you to host a magical event!

Colorovio is a spell that changes the color of certain blocks once casted on. I recommend draping all kinds of wool around the party area or even using it as a dance floor! Cast this spell on these blocks throughout the party, or even encourage the partygoers to do so themselves, and watch your party colorfully come alive! Every party needs a pop of color somehow, and there’s no better or more exciting way to do it than with a bit of magic, of course!

Mollio is basically a magical trampoline! If the activities at your party begin to get a bit dry and boring, bring out your wand and cast this spell! No one can resist the temptation of bouncing on a slimy, makeshift, trampoline. It’s a sure-fire way to keep the guests energized and interested!

Disappearus allows one to become invisible! This is yet another spell I feel would be best used in an activity setting. Hide and seek, perhaps? Or, even tag! When the seeker or tagger is extremely close to doing their job with you, cast this spell, disappear, and keep playing your role in the game. Sure, this is cheating, but… yeah!

Lumen gives the caster night vision. Many parties tend to take place in the evening or night, so I simply am listing this spell so that the dark doesn’t define your experience. Using this spell, no party is ever too dark to enjoy to the fullest and your eyes will not get too tired from the sleepy mood!

Scribblifors allows the caster to magically summon a book and quill. I’m including this spell so that your invitation game, not only your mid-party game, is on point. Messaging in-game and direct messaging on Discord is so last season. Switch it up and send a handwritten, colorful, heartfelt, card via the Owlery! Personalized sending is bound to let there be a greater chance of the invitee accepting the invite.

Respiratus forms an air bubble over the caster’s head. Pool party? No problem. This spell allows you and your guests to hang out in the pool for longer periods of time, especially underwater. Another potential cheat could be to challenge everyone to a game that requires breath-holding and completely win by a longshot, amazing the other contestants!

Tempus Recantum/Atmospherus gives one the power to alter the weather! Depending on what your party is all about, you might want to tailor the weather around it. Cozy indoor theme? Make it rain outside. Outdoor pool party? Try sunny. Star-observing gathering? Completely clear the night sky for optimum viewing. Winter-activity showdown? If you’re lucky, cast the spell for snow! A little-known party secret is that the weather can make or break the plan entirely.

Firework Spells shoot fireworks from your wand. Let’s be honest here. Out of all the party assistance I’ve included in this article, nothing will captivate your guests more than a firework show. Get your hotbars crammed with all kinds of flares at the ready and the minute you cast them, all of your guests will come running to look up at each of them!

I hope that these magical party decoration spells and more equipped you with all the correct needs for your next party! I know I will use just about every spell mentioned in this article to host the epitome of an epic party! Let me know if you enjoyed the article or test any of these spells out yourself by messaging me in-game, direct messaging me on Discord, or, as aforementioned, the best way to communicate with a counterpart, send me a book and quill via the Owlery. This was Carolyn Lestrange reporting for the Daily Diviner!

Fun Under the Summer Sun!
Lifestyle
Written by MamaDuckie
Edited by ShaneChi

A note from the Lead Producers: This article was written at the end of June, prior to the Revelius Update’s release. We encourage you, our readers, to read this article and reflect upon your Summer experience, considering your own goals and how you have met or perhaps have left room to meet them. Thank you for your continued support!

Greetings and salutations, reader, and welcome to another edition of the Daily Diviner! In this edition we’re going to be taking a look at summer here on Potterworld. With summer now upon us - winter for those in the southern hemisphere! - players will find themselves with far more free time, if only for a little while. So what exactly will everyone be up to over the next couple of months? We held a few interviews with some players from our community to see what Potterworld holds for them this summer.

What are you most looking forward to in Potterworld in the coming months?

tylerrrr: What has been really intriguing me these past couple of months, leading into the cusp of Summer, is the Revelius update. This is something that I have been desiring to play ever since its appearance was first announced, and the crazy thing is, is that it comes out next month! July is just a few days away and I cannot wait to start a new adventure again with all the players and my closest friends. Besides from the Revelius update, I am excited to see any upcoming events that Potterworld puts forward in the upcoming months leading into the end of the year.

Cloudram: I’m looking forward to being able to experience all the new updates. It’s been a while since I graduated so it will be fun to start that process over again.

EmmaRiley: I am for sure looking forward to the new professions and classes. It can sometimes be kind of boring going to the same class even though you learn something new every time in some classes. I'm also excited for the new quests! Quests are such a huge part of Potterworld and are just really enjoyable to do with friends or even by yourself! (I can't pick one thing I'm most looking forward to).

prithcess: All the new quests and the new map is something I am super excited about in the coming months.

Do you plan on trying to meet any Potterworld goals this summer?

tylerrrr: I do plan on trying to meet a couple of goal(s) this Summer for Potterworld! A goal that I have had in mind this Summer is to level up as much as possible after the release of the Revelius update. I want to become invested into the community and game and see how far I can take myself before the end of the Summer season. I also want to complete objectives and quests that I have not been able to do currently in-game and achieve that in the next update as quickly as possible. Lastly, I want to explore the new vast things that are coming to Potterworld in the upcoming update that haven't been seen before, and explore those things as well before the fall season starts back up again.

Cloudram: Yes I would love to be able to complete all the professions on Potterworld!

EmmaRiley: Of course! I'm going to try my best to meet some of the goals, maybe not all, but some.

prithcess: I would love to be able to become staff in the academics department because it is something I have always been interested in!

Are you planning anything interesting to keep yourself occupied over the summer?

tylerrrr: Not particularly anything interesting. I just plan to spend an abundance of my time on Potterworld and try to complete as many of my goals as possible. Like finding new secrets and completing quests. These are my type of goals for the Summer and far beyond that as well in the upcoming months leading into 2021.

Cloudram: I am planning on competing in a lot of the tournaments if I can and hopefully get onto a team or the finals!

EmmaRiley: Uhh I currently don't really know, but I'm sure I'll find something!

prithcess: I’m planning on diving into all the new quests that are coming to Potterworld.

Is there anything new on Potterworld you’d like to try this summer? (Like a new mini-game or tournament)

tylerrrr: Something new I would like to try this Summer (and get better at) would be the mini-game ''spell wars''! I find it to be very similar to other mini-games that I have played in the past, but with a little twist to it of course. I have never really tried anything PVP related with the use and mechanics of spells involved. This is rather something of a new stepping stone for me that I have never encountered before, and I plan to venture more in-depth over the course of this Summer in order to see what this mini-game has to offer.

Cloudram: Yes! I’m so excited to explore the new map that is coming out!

EmmaRiley: Um everything, I'm so excited for it all!

prithcess: The Quabbleball tournament is something I’d love to participate in!!

Obviously the community is bursting with excitement over the new Revelius update and we can’t say we blame them either! They also seem to all have some wonderful goals in mind for their time on Potterworld and we wish them luck in completing them as we know it’s not always easy to reach your goals. We’d like to thank all the participants for their contributions to this article by way of their interviews and their take on how the next few months will be for not only themselves, but the entire community! Wishing everyone a wonderful start to their summer!

Seo Aejeong, or as she’s known in Britain, Aurelia Selwyn, eyes the storefront of her stall in Diagonal Lane with trepidation. Although she’s spent weeks obsessing over every little detail of the storefront, spending a whole day picking the colors of the logo, a week deciding the business name, and a month wondering whether this is a good idea, she can’t help but worry.

Today’s her first day, and she’s on high alert. Her nerves aren’t helping. In the dim morning light, she thinks that the sign perched atop the roof of the stall looks too washed out, bathed in the rising sun’s amber glow. Of course, this is just her worrying—in broad daylight, her sign will look perfectly fine—but she can’t help it.

She is woken from her reverie by the sound of the other shopkeepers. Standing behind the counter, she fires up her little stoves and fryers and begins to prepare her snacks. All her batters are pre-prepared, and the egg bread she baked just that morning sits in a beautiful little basket that looks appetizing even to her nervous stomach.

The first customers are passing through—wizards working for Grimlotts, mostly. Most of them pass her stall without so much as a glance, to her disappointment. It’s a sign of the day to come.

Business for the day is terrible. Only one man, a Grimlotts banker with a broad smile, stops by. He orders the entire basket of egg bread, which has gone cold, and Aurelia almost doesn’t charge him. It feels dishonest to Korea to give him a cold gyeran-ppang, but she needs the money. Ingredients aren’t free.

Later that night, she returns to the question that’s been plaguing her mind the entire day.

Can she do this?

Then she reminds herself why she’s doing this.

Growing up, she was dissatisfied with her way of life. Surrounded by those who believed in Trueblood supremacy, she dreamed not of a world without Unmagical blood, but of the world outside Britain. Her parents often blamed her aunt for these fantasies— she frequently traveled the world and brought back thrilling stories to little Aurelia.

So after graduating from Hogsworth, she ran away from home to Korea—she’d met a Korean-British girl at Hogsworth who indulged in her fantasies and offered to let Aurelia come when she visited her grandparents there. Aurelia knew the consequences—her parents would probably disown her, and then she’d have nowhere to go. She might even have to stay in Korea.

But that didn’t sound like such a bad thing.

She did stay in Korea, but not because her parents disowned her. She stayed because she loved Korea. It was like a home she never had. Their food, their beliefs, and their culture all felt more natural to Aurelia then anything in Britain had. She assumed the name Seo Aejeong and lived there as the Korean equivalent of an Aurorlock. Though their way of magic wasn’t the same, she caught on quickly as she did with the language, and she thrived for a while.

However, Aejeong aged. She wished to return to Britain to share the beauties of her home. So Aeyeong became Aurelia once again.

There, her younger brother greeted her once again with the declaration of disownment.

Aurelia wasn’t bothered. If not her parents, it would have been him—she learned that her parents had died several years ago from old age and spite. They never really got over her leaving, she heard, and though she felt pity for them, she knew they hadn’t missed her. It was more the shame, and Aurelia didn’t mind that.

She remembers all this, and so, the next morning, she gets up at four in the morning to bake the bread she prepared the previous evening.

The young man from Grimlotts became her first regular customer. Every day, he buys all the egg bread she had left to sell. This consistency gives her confidence, and she began to greet every passing customer with a broad smile, like the one he had given her on his first visit. Smiling makes people like you.

More people visit, and by the time wizarding families begin to flock to Diagonal Lane, word of the new seller of Korean treats has reached some. A few stop by out of interest. One girl stands out in Aurelia’s memory.

She had brought over a few bronze, which pays for two chapssal donuts. As Aurelia hands them to her, the girl asks, “You don’t look Korean.”

“It’s my home, but I’m not Korean.”

“Then why are you selling food from there?”

Aurelia smiles. “Try it,” she says, gesturing to the donuts in the girl’s hand.

Looking puzzled, the girl complies, and a smile of bliss passes over her face at the taste. Aurelia loves seeing that look. “Do you understand now?”

The girl nods thoughtfully. “I think so. I’ve never tasted something like this here before. I guess you wanted to bring something beautiful from your home here, something that we’ve never known existed before.” She shoots Aurelia a rueful smile. “It’s yummy.”

The smile on Aurelia’s face broadens. “I know.” She leans over the counter to pat the girl’s head. “I’ll give you one for free, how about it?”

She nearly jumps up in glee.

A Chance of Freedom

“Go fetch the post!” a voice calls out from the parlor. A small figure scampers to the window in response, picking up the usual load in their small hands; advertisements, the newsletter, and… a strange piece of paper flutters out of the mistresses’ weekly magazine, landing on the polished floor right beneath the wooden stool. Clambering down, they pick it up with an air of precaution; scrawled on the torn parchment was a message written in blotchy, smeared ink.

On the same day, another house elf receives the same note; this time the message written on a piece of ripped magazine paper. In the town over, the next elf picks up the post with the words scratched onto the back of parcel wrapping paper. Up into the north, down into the south, from the east to the west coast, house elves all over the country were receiving these notes; on them was written:

“House elves and allies, one and all, the time has come! Come on down to support S.P.E.W; that is, the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. Travel on into Diagon Lane to rally before Grimlotts Bank on August 23 for equal rights! No one is free until all elves are free!”

In one London home, a timid-looking house elf clutches this very message between her small fingers. Her big eyes darted around the small scrap and grew even larger as she heard loud footsteps emerge from behind her. Her frail body began to tremor and shake as her master snatched the note from her hands and gazed over it; in an instant, he crushed the note in his clenched fist. The elf fell to her knees, begging for forgiveness-- the advertisement was thrown into the trash bin, and he turned back around to face her.

“Keely!” a man shouted from the bottom of the stairs. “Where did that thing go?” he muttered, turning away. Upstairs, in a small nook between the loose rafters and the ceiling, Keely the house elf clutched a scrap of newspaper in her fingers. An organization… an organization for house elves? She’d never heard anything like it! She wanted to jump up and celebrate, but the masters would hear it… and that wouldn’t be good at all, no it wouldn’t… they’d be angry, yes they would. Instead, Keely tucked the paper carefully into a dusty hole in the wall and hopped down, preparing for her household chores of the day.

As she carefully dusted the mantle above the fireplace, the scribbles on that piece of parchment came floating back to her mind. What were the chances that it would just… appear, tucked right into the daily mail? Keely would never be able to go… it was utter madness! The masters would never let her go free, not one day of her life. Her parents served them dutifully, and her grandparents, and probably every generation of house elves back hundreds of years! She was just being a bad elf, with bad thoughts, that’s all it was. But maybe--

“You there! Elf!” Master Smith called out. Spinning around, Keely spoke out in a timid voice:
“Yes master?”

“We’ll be going out soon, I expect your best behavior.” he snarled, turning away.

“Where to?” Keely squeaked out in a timid voice, instantly regretting her choice to speak out of turn. Master Smith spun around on his heel with a disgusted look on his squashy face:

“Speak when spoken to, elf. You’ll know when you’re meant to!”

With a swirl of his frivolous set of robes, he began to turn back to his business. However, quickly checking his pocket watch, his eyebrows raised slightly. “And follow me.”

Master Smith took long strides out into the foyer of the family manor, walls decorated with portraits of true-blooded members of the family; Keely obviously wasn’t meant to know this, but someone once said that the masters weren’t even true-bloods themselves… they were all just part-bloods, with some big notion of blood purity from the last century. Odd, they all were… why would it matter? Once again, that group, S.P.E.W, pushed itself back into her mind. What if...?

The next few hours were a complete blur, as clouds of fire dust filled up her lungs and Keely’s body was wrung through their strange wizarding travel halfway across the country; all the way to London! Along the way, the purpose was finally revealed to her: a celebration for the master’s graduation from Hogsworth! He was always particularly kind to Keely, so she was delighted to see the gorgeous event in store. The clearing that they arrived in was decorated with banners of silver and green webbing all across and floating candles of gold to illuminate the night sky, and tables of food and drink lined the edges of the party. Of course, Keely was simply there to serve her masters; there would be no celebration for her.

Across the clearing, Cadby the house elf twiddled his small fingers and scanned around the area. One sight caught his eye; another house elf! He’d certainly seen her before, somewhere; what was her name? Kylie? No… Callie? That had to be it, certainly. Off to speak to Callie, then!

Cadby strutted over to with none of the fright or timidness that a proper house elf should carry themselves with, but he simply didn’t care. Soon enough, he would be free, and his masters won’t have anything to say about it then!

“Hello there! Callie, is it?” he asked the shy-looking elf.

“Callie? No, no, no… my name is Keely.” she said very softly.

“Ah right! Keely. I’ve seen you around, you’re one of them eh?” Cadby then waggled his finger at her mistress.

“Yes-- well, no, not one of them, of course, no… but yes, I’m with them, but no… I’m not... well, a wizard, yes.“ she stuttered out, looking around with her large eyes.

Cadby simply nodded nonchalantly, whistling as he turned back around.

“So… you haven’t heard any of this, S.P.E.W nonsense, have you?” he burst out.

“What? No, uh, well, I did… just a little bit. You did as well?”

“Of course! House elves all over the nation have. Well, I think so. I hope so.”

Keely nodded, still gazing around to make sure no one was listening in. If her masters heard…

“You do know it’s in London, right? The headquarters?” Cadby pushed, leaning in closer and hushing his tone. “We could go there, you know. Get out of this.”

Keely shook her head furiously and began in an even quieter voice:

“You- we- are you mad? They’ll know, they always know, they’ll find us, they’ll--”

He put up his hands to calm her down. If anyone saw them acting this conspicuously, it would be the end of his plan for good.

“How will they find out, Keely? It’s dark, we’re close to London! They won’t find us. This is our chance to break free, a chance of freedom! You aren’t a servant, you’re an elf. We deserve more than this.”

Keely bit her lip and wrung her hands together with apprehension. After a long silence, she broke.

“I’ll go.”

And so they were off, and slipping out was the easiest part of the journey. The trees and brush were thick and amidst all of the food and drink and small talk, their masters couldn’t care to notice where their elves were at the given time. Keely and Cadby slid through the brush with ease and began to run through the forest, following the small glint of streetlights on the dark horizon. However, only minutes later, Keely’s keen ears picked up a faint yell coming from where they had just left:

“Cadby! Oh Merlin, where is that cursed elf?”

“Where has that stupid creature gone off to?!” called the familiar voice of her master.

She nudged Cadby to run faster, and they took off; soon, even the distant calls of their former lives were no longer heard. Keely’s heart was still racing a mile a minute at the thought of well, everything; what if they got caught? What if someone knew that they weren’t even free elves?! Something was going to go wrong, she just knew it.

As the two elves finally made their way well into the city and far from any wizarding sort, they crouched down in an alleyway to catch their breath.

“We did it!” Cadby cried out, breaking the tense silence.

“Well, we haven’t done anything just yet. Just broken the rules--”

Cadby interrupted her harshly: “There are no more rules! We’re going to get to S.P.E.W!”

Finally, it dawned on her. They wouldn’t find us, not in the middle of London, not when they reached Diagon Lane. They were… they were free. At last!

Dawn still remained hours away, so the elves decided to take their time and rest while the unmagicals were asleep. Finally, they rose up and made their way through the winding streets and buildings; somehow, Cadby knew his way, even though everything looked the same to Keely.

As they finally reached the Cauldron Inn, it all pieced together. Diagon Lane was silent at this time of night aside from the odd witch or wizard buying an oddity here or there, but their destination stood out like a sore thumb-- right as they turned the corner on the cobbled street, it was there.

The S.P.E.W headquarters, bustling with life as if it were midday on the busiest day of the year. Elves were carrying stacks of informational pamphlets and others were pushing carts of protest signs and markers; others were holding small wizard-like wands in their hands, posting up flyers around every corner. Shining banners were draped across the shining new storefront, proclaiming the movement for equal rights. Elves, just like Cadby and Keely, were going about their business… because they wanted to! Their first taste of freedom, at last. Cadby and Keely broke out into a sprint, as they could no longer wait.
