The Magical Artist’s Tips and Tricks
Feature
Written by Silquer
Edited by snotflower

Hello, my dear readers, and welcome back to the Daily Diviner! There has been an important update that all magical artists should be aware of: the Monthly Art Giveaway has been updated! It will now be held quarterly, which gives artists more time to create. Here are some tips, tricks, and inspiration to prepare you for the next giveaway. I will be covering several different art forms, so scroll to your preferred medium or browse for inspiration!

Traditional and digital art are some of the most popular types of art submitted to the art giveaway. All one needs is a piece of paper and a pencil, and the creativity can begin flowing! Get any canvas (digital or otherwise) and get to work. My tip for this medium is to not be afraid to use references! Of course, never steal or copy art, but looking at photographs, poses, and others’ art is a great way to learn and pick up tricks.

Rendering 3D Minecraft models is a very popular art medium! If you have the skill, absolutely give it a try. You can create renders of anything, not just Minecraft skins (but bonus points if you make your own). Here’s the tip: If you’re new to rendering, there are plenty of tutorials for software like Blender online! There is no better time to learn or experiment than with a giveaway prompt.

Building is a staple of Minecraft art, and building with a theme can be a lot of fun. The possibilities are endless; your very own Pride float build would have been a perfect submission for June’s giveaway. What other creations are possible in the future? A tip here is to focus on improving your building skills, and don’t be afraid to try something new!

Writing, like traditional and digital art, only requires paper and pencil (or a dictation app for those who prefer it). The accessibility of this art form is almost entirely unmatched; the only limit is imagination. Bring out your notebooks and craft a story related to the giveaway theme; if you are struggling, my tip is to use random prompt generators! They are a great way to kickstart a story or poem.

Photography allows you to capture any moment and treasure it forever. Find something that matches the theme and photograph away. This could also include screenshots of Minecraft; see something magical and on-theme in-game? Snap a screenshot and submit it! Tip: You don’t have to go very far to find something to take a photo of! As long as it inspires you and you feel it fits the theme, it will be perfect.

Fiber arts, among the most relaxing art forms (and at times, frustrating), are a great way to express your creativity with a unique medium. Bring out your crochet hooks, your knitting needles, or your embroidery thread and get to work! Absolutely any theme will work as long as you have the right materials. Tip: Even if you don’t finish, it’s okay to show off your work! Fiber arts are just as much about the process as the finished product.

I hope this inspired you to dust off your creativity to work on a themed giveaway prompt! Again, the monthly giveaway will now be quarterly, so keep an eye on the PotterworldMC website forums for any news. Stay creative, and have a magical month!

Enchanting Summer Plans
Editorial
Written by snotflower
Edited by Silquer

Welcome back to the Daily Diviner! It is finally summer, and I am sure many readers have their plans already made. But what about the characters of Potterworld? Curious about what they would be up to, I traveled to Hogsworth, Hogsend, and back to London to chat with some familiar Potterworld faces. Read ahead for an insight into what they will be doing during this exciting season!

First, I stopped by Basically Beheaded Benjamin, who spends most of his time hanging out by the Griffin Common Room. I must admit, ghosts make me nervous at times. But Benjamin was nothing but friendly and seemed to appreciate I was there for a chat.

When I asked him if he had any plans over the summer, he told me, “Well, as a ghost, I’m bound here at Hogsworth. I like it during the school year when there are students, but it can get a bit lonely in the summer. I’ll spend most of my time with the other ghosts and the groundskeeper, most likely.”

As if he could sense that I felt a little bad for him, he quickly tried to cheer me up by giving me some ideas of how I could spend my own summer. “When I was still alive, I loved going horseback riding and swimming in our local lake. You should try it!”

I promised him I would if I had the chance, then bid him adieu to go visit my next interviewee, Miriam Bloom. As the Herbology professor at Hogsworth, she spends much of her time in the Greenhouses, helping students with their plants or cultivating her own. Even while we talked about her plans, she flitted back and forth between pots.

“Oh, I’ve got grand plans!” she announced excitedly when I asked. “Summer is the perfect time to start growing a myriad of plants. I’ll be planting Arnica and Lady’s Mantle! Ooh, not to mention some Unmagical plants like cucumber and basil!”

After this, she wasted no time at all in pressing a bag of seeds into my hand, telling me I should try planting them and starting to ramble about the specific methods of cultivating the plants. Though I appreciated her enthusiasm, the herbology jargon began to get a little overwhelming, and I excused myself shortly after.

I headed to the nearby town of Hogsend after to speak to Toymaker Tobias. As proud owner of Build-A-Plush Workshop, Tobias is always hard at work making toys for children across the wizarding world.

Regarding his plans for the summer, he said, “I usually start creating toys one season in advance. This year, I’ve got some really promising ideas for autumn toys! I’ll spend most of my time in my workshop, preparing these in time for the next season.”

When I expressed curiosity in how he made his famous toys, his face lit up, and he led me to the back to shadow him as he created one. It was a fascinating process, and he even let me keep the toy at the end! There is certainly no doubt as to why Toymaker Tobias is such a cornerstone figure for all of Hogsend.

Last, but certainly not least, I was returning to London to begin writing this article when I passed by the Enchanted Pumpkin Company headquarters and saw none other than Ophelia Alton! As Head of the EPC, she looked quite busy, but she graciously gave me a few moments of her time to answer my question.

“Summer is always the EPC’s busiest time,” she told me, already looking a little tired at the thought. “I’ll be caught up in a lot of work so as to hopefully avoid any of the stocking issues we’ve had in the past. We’ve also got some exciting new flavors in testing that might start production in a few months!”

She kindly invited me in to try a Pumpkin Punch, but unfortunately I had to decline as I was on a tight schedule. Still, it was a delight to see Ophelia and I encourage all readers to try a Pumpkin Punch if they’re looking to cool off!

Though everyone has different ideas for the summer, they all sound fulfilling in their own ways. From working on businesses to cultivating a garden, it is fascinating to learn about each person’s plans, and I hope they all come to fruition! Thank you to those that I interviewed, and thank you for reading. Have a magical day!

Investigating as a Magical Criminalist
Server Spotlight
Written by Creme_de_Creme
Edited by littledead

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Server Spotlight column! As I once was a student of Hogsworth, I understand that there may be some anxiety and fear in figuring out what your calling may be after graduating from your magical wizarding school. While I have found my own career in being a Writer for the Daily Diviner, I understand that not everyone is so skilled with journalism. That is why we have created these helpful articles just for you!

Past articles covered Magizoologists and Magical Nurses, so if you have not seen them yet, I highly recommend you give them a glance! In this article, I will be taking a magnifying glass to Magical Criminalists.

Now, you might be thinking, “What in the world is a Magical Criminalist?” While you might know of Auralocks as the detectives and policemen of our world, Magical Criminalists are those who investigate, identify, classify, and document magical crime scenes. If there are magically altered items within a crime scene, footprints to track, or fibers to identify, a Magical Criminalist is who you would call!

This career also comes with potential dangers as it can work with hazardous areas of magic, potions, alchemy, and may potentially expose you to diseases. Thus, all Magical Criminalists are required to wear protective gear as they work their magic.

In order to enter the field of Magical Criminology, you must have a basic knowledge of a wide spectrum of subjects. Some of the most important subjects to Magical Criminalists include Potions, Transfiguration, Charms, Herbology, and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Make sure to study up on your knowledge of Wizarding Law as well, as you may find it useful not only for solving cases, but also for proper protocol when handling important evidence for ongoing cases. The Ministry of Magicians is always looking for more hands, especially within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

If this career interests you, I would seek out an internship at the Ministry of Magicians. You may just be able to shadow one of the Magical Criminalists there if you are lucky and study hard enough! If you are going to have to work, you might as well find something that falls in line with your interests. As they say, if you love what you do, you will never really have to work a day in your life!

We will be exploring one more career, so hopefully you will find something that inspires you. In the meantime, have a wonderful day! This has been Creme_de_Creme reporting for the Daily Diviner.

Summer Spells
Lifestyle
Written by littledead
Edited by snotflower

Welcome, Daily Diviner readers! With summer in full-swing, many witches and wizards are enjoying the gorgeous weather by spending time outdoors. Summer activities such as going to the beach, camping, or hosting an outdoor barbecue are a great time to put your magical prowess to use. Here are some spells that may help you out this summer!

While spending time at the beach, Respiratus is a great spell to give a go. It conjures a bubble of air around your nose and mouth, allowing you to temporarily breathe underwater! This can be used to play underwater games with friends or for simply observing aquatic life. If you choose to take a dip in the water, Impervio is a charm that will come in handy for drying off. It drives away water, ensuring a dry surface. If you need a rest and choose to spend time laying in the sun, you can still have some fun by using Colorovio on your beach towel to create different colors and designs!

Another favorite summertime activity is camping. The idea of camping may make some people uncomfortable if they have a fear of spiders, but do not fret! The simple spell Arachnipello will keep spiders at bay so you can sleep peacefully outdoors. Carrying all of your supplies while camping is no easy feat, so a spell like Minificus can be especially handy. This spell allows you to shrink objects down for easier travel. Another helpful spell for camping is Epifio, a well-known healing spell. This helps heal minor injuries, perfect for any scrapes or scratches you may receive outdoors.

An outdoor barbecue is a great way to treat your friends this summer, and fruit is a delicious summer treat to provide for your guests. The spell Fruitious helps to grow in-season fruits perfect for any barbecue! No outdoor hangout is complete without a bonfire, and a good spell for starting your fire is, of course, Incendo. Lastly, as much fun as it is to spend time outdoors, when it is sunny and hot, you may want a way to beat the heat. The spell Blizzix can be used to help cool down! This spell gives the caster a short but intense cold sensation over their body to help rid the effects of fire, poison, and slowness.

These were just a few ideas of ways to incorporate magic into your activities this summer. Remember to practice caution when performing spells and make sure you know what you are doing. Also, make sure to stay safe in your activities and always wear sunscreen! Have a magical summer, and get out and have some fun before your return to Hogsworth in the fall!
