Department Updates - December & January
Feature
Edited by Silquer
Welcome back to the Daily Diviner department updates! December and January were big months for Potterworld, and there are a multitude of new things to share. Read on for each report from the departments themselves!

Build - New Tools, Plushie Suitcases & Upcoming Projects
With the addition of hundreds of new textures to our library, we've developed a new tool to use the textures on unplaceable blocks. The build hammer is enabling us to customise builds in many more ways than ever before! It's a new way of building, but the difference is amazing.

We recently finished the mushroom plushie habitat for the GD department, with this providing a home for the mushroom plushie! Its leafy walls hide several new 1.18 blocks - an exciting first for potterworld build projects!

We're currently working on a couple of Academics requests for upcoming class design projects, and we'll be shortly picking our Hogsend upgrade back up, using all of the new textures to bring it to a whole new level. Alongside this we'll be picking up revamps of other key locations in preparation for the 2.0 work being done by GD, as outlined in the recent server plans announcement!

Community Management - Revisiting Expeditions & Moderating the Server
The team has kicked off the new year strong with our moderation team continuing to help players through chat, tickets and website support tickets!

The Curator team is hard at work on two new expeditions for the coming months - these Expeditions bring brand new tech and themes to the library. The first will be themed around time anomalies, and the second is just starting development now!

Fun fact: in 2025 we handled 913 in-game support tickets, 69 website support tickets, and hosted 43 expeditions! Across all of our expeditions, we had 661 attendees who earned a total of 772 badges

Media - Store Releases, Competition Winners, & Incredible Stats from 2025
In December, we released our Magifaisteio Store Releases & Sale. This introduced cool Model Engine animations to pets, making them more alive than ever before! We also announced the winner, brieky, of our Video Competition. Check out their winning submission here. The first Quarterly Art Giveaway winner, Wildsam, was also announced! Enjoy their submission here:

Be sure to check out our ongoing January - March 2026 Quarterly Art Giveaway too!

In January, we started off with the Toasty Store Releases! This introduced heart-warming Hot Cocoa Cup Warp Keys and many other cosmetics to our store. It also came with a heap of wool colours for our Pet Sheep, as well as the ability to use hex colours in pet and wand names!

The 2D, 3D, and Skin Arithmancers are currently making plenty of graphics, renders, and skins for our upcoming Valentine's Event and February store release. Our hard-working Artworkers have also been busy making hundreds of models to give our world a new, fresh look in the future!

Fun facts ahead! Throughout 2025, the Skin Arithmancers made 54 skins, the 3D Arithmancers made a total of 94 renders, and the 2D Arithmancers put together a grand total of 478 graphics. The Daily Diviner team released 16 issues with a total of 65 articles last year. This was accomplished with only 12 DD Writers and DD Editors! Closing off, in 2025, players voted on the server 15271 times. Raven students were in the lead with 4661 total instances of voting, closely followed by Serpent that voted 4564 times. That is some serious dedication - well done, everyone.

Technology & Development - End of Year Updates
At the end of December we enabled support for players connecting on version 1.21.11 of Minecraft, ensuring that we continue to allow players to join on the 'latest' version. We have already begun preparing for 26.1 version support too, and are now just awaiting its official release! The Developer team was also hard at work creating the underlying systems for the new Potions and Herbology professions. You can see a prototype of the new brewing system here!

The Grounds Keepers have begun testing the Valentine's 2026 event, as well as several new Class Design projects. The Developers are working on wrapping up a few backend projects, as well as currently establishing the 2026 roadmap for Potterworld development.

From exciting news in the Build team to Media’s Video Competition, the year is off to a great start. Stay tuned for next month’s department updates!

Let’s Talk: New Year’s Resolutions
Editorial
Written by yakko__
Edited by Silquer

Happy New Year, Daily Diviner readers! Although the end of January is coming fast, there is still plenty of time to make your New Year’s Resolutions. Resolutions can be about anything—the sky’s the limit!—but most center around improving one’s mind, body, work, or personality. They can be as simple as reading a chapter of a book a day, or as complex as achieving a promotion by the end of the year. Some people find choosing resolutions daunting, but learning about other people’s can make the task easier. I decided one of my resolutions would be to travel more, which was the perfect opportunity for me to interview Magicals in the United Kingdom about their resolutions!

I started in Hogsend, where I spoke with Shawna, a candy shop employee.

Q. What is your New Year’s Resolution?
I’m going to try at least one new food every month!

Q. What made you choose that?
I’ve always wanted to be more adventurous with what I eat, but I find it hard to try unfamiliar foods. This year I decided to finally expand my palette and be more open-minded.
Q. Have you made any progress yet?
I’m one new food in so far! Turns out I don’t like bug candy…but at least I tried it!
Good luck, Shawna! I hope you find some new favorite foods.

Next, I found myself in Magical Belfast in Northern Ireland. There I met student and hobbyist Quabbleball player, Eimear.

Q. What is your New Year’s Resolution?
I get anxious around crowds and I don’t like attention…but I want to change that. I want to be comfortable enough to join my school’s Quabbleball team.
Q. Why did you choose that?
Playing professionally has been my dream my whole life. I graduate in the next couple of years, and I realized I need to start working on my anxiety now.
Q. Have you made any progress yet?
Right now I am still just planning. My friends will help me start small, going out in public and playing pickup Quabbleball matches until I’m comfortable in front of pro stadium crowds.
I look forward to seeing you signed to a team in the next few years, Eimear! I’m happy you have such wonderful friends.

Finally, I explored Diagonal Lane in London as my final stop for this trip. I came across a little stationery shop to get a business owner’s perspective on resolutions, and spoke with the owner, Wes.

Q. What is your New Year’s Resolution?
I need to out-sell Quinn’s Quills across the street.
Q. …Why did you choose that?
Quinn is my nemesis. I hate him. His end of year profits always dwarf mine. I heard someone call his place “the best stationery store in Diagonal Lane”. I must usurp this man’s title and demonstrate my true power.
Q. Oh. Well, how is…that going for you?
I’ve started employing more aggressive sales tactics. For instance, we just got these new self-inking erasable quills which—
Q. I’m not trying to—
-and if you bundle it with—
Q. No, I—
-which Quinn could never—hey, where are you going?!
Good luck, Wes. You’re going to need it.

Conducting these interviews gave me a wonderful look into many different types of New Year’s Resolutions! People from all walks of life participate in this tradition, which makes it truly special. If any of you need resolution inspiration, I hope this article helps you. Just remember: try your best without pushing yourself too hard, and have a wonderful New Year!

Valentine's Gatherings
Server Spotlight
Written by Silquer
Edited by gospojken

Hello, dear readers, and welcome back to the Server Spotlight column! Valentine’s Day in February is a great season to spend time with loved ones (especially friends)! In the spirit of this, here are four seasonal activities on Potterworld that are great for getting friends together for a night on the server.

The January minigame map rotations are out, featuring all of the minigame maps the server will feature until April. Greek City Hide and Seek and Pegasus Flight Flying are reminiscent of the 2022 Valentine’s Event, Havoc in Hellas, which took place in Ancient Greece on the island of Kalphos. There are many other returning maps this quarter, so take a look here to find which ones you want to play on!

Expeditions, hosted by the creative minds of the Curator team, are community activities that take place over the course of one week. Expeditions are announced far in advance, so it is easy to make a plan and find which time works best. The most recent Expedition was themed around Magifaisteio, the 2025 Winter Waltz destination; if you missed out, fear not! More Expeditions are on the way.

The Valentine’s Event is a beloved annual event held in February! Historically, this event has taken players from Ancient Greece to Candyland, and back again. Potterworld events are best played with friends; questing is always better with company! When and where will the event be hosted this year? Time will tell! Any announcements will be posted in the Potterworld website forums and announced in the main Discord, so do keep an eye out.

House points can be gained by completing daily tasks, which is a great way to spend time with friends! This Valentine’s season, schedule a time to tackle these daily tasks. Most minigames only need to be played a few times to earn House points, and attending only two classes will also earn some points, so there is no reason not to make time for this with friends.

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s spent with friends and family. Be sure to make time for close friends and schedule something soon, and have a happy Valentine’s!

The Magic of Horoscopes
Lifestyle
Written by TheFallenPrince
Edited by LMNJ

Horoscopes and astrology have been important in the world of magic for centuries, with us looking towards the stars for guidance and studying charts for glimpses into the future. We even have other magical creatures to thank for some such proficiency, the key one being the mighty centaurs. As such it is only right that we start out this new year looking towards the stars for guidance on what may await us, so dust off your divination textbooks and be prepared.

Aquarius
January 20 - February 18
You will hear a call for help from someone in your past. Maybe an old friend waiting by the shoreline. Help them, and it will reward your future heavily. Just make sure they’re human first, not merfolk.

Pisces
February 19 - March 20
Your magic will soar with sparks this time of year! A spectacular show that will leave you and your classmates breathless. Just remember to stop by a wand shop afterward because your tricks might be a bit more than you bargained for otherwise.

Aries
March 21 - April 19
This month, Aries, your fiery spirit will ignite like a phoenix reborn. Expect bold adventures and daring spells. Trust your instincts and they will guide you through upcoming challenges! Just maybe stay away from herbology so you don’t set the plants on fire while blazing ahead.

Taurus
April 20 - May 20
Steady and determined, your quiet strength will be your greatest asset. Trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to assert yourself. A hidden opportunity might slither into your path, approach it with the patience and confidence of a serpent. Your grounded nature will turn even the darkest magic into gold.

Gemini
May 21 - June 21
Your curiosity sparks like luminous light in the darkness. Use your wit and adaptability to uncover new ideas and connections. Your words can illuminate paths for others, so this month, share your magic freely.

Cancer
June 22 - July 22
Your enchanted mirror shows you as a charming wizard, but beware—someone may have snuck an invisibility potion into your tea. Trust no one, not even your own cauldron.

Leo
July 23 - August 22
The mighty Leo starts out this year loud and proud, as they should. But keep an eye out in the months ahead—lest you get caught in the claws of a chimera blocking your path. Maybe steer clear of the Magizoology class for a while.

Virgo
August 23 - September 22
Great fortune comes to those who are kind. Remember to make good choices with your newfound wealth, or a niffly might find its way into your life and leave you with not a coin to your name.

Libra
September 23 - October 22
Seek harmony and fairness. Your sense of justice aligns with the wise decisions of the council. Focus on restoring balance in your relationships and surroundings with enchanting diplomacy. Perhaps a future in the ministry awaits.

Scorpio
October 23 - November 21
This month, your intense magic may become too powerful and transformative to handle alone. Embrace your depth and passion, but do so with friends guiding your way and use your inner strength to turn darkness into light. Your friends will be close, wands at the ready, to help.

Sagittarius
November 22 - December 21
Look up into the stars and follow the centaur’s path. It’s wise to keep your eyes on the constellations this month, as you face a great adventure with only the sky as your guide. Hopefully, you’ve been keeping up with your astronomy lessons!

Capricorn
December 22 - January 19
Maintain your focus and determination in the potion labs. Success may be brewing at the bottom of a vial. Keep working toward your goals with patience. Great things are just around the corner.

And on that note don’t forget, the planets are aligning again with Mercury moving into retrograde once more in February so keep an eye out for that. Though that isn't an excuse for not getting your classwork done on time. It may have worked on the divination teacher last year but I doubt it will work on the rest. Remember, “The only way to predict the future is to create it.” - Dennis Gabor

No matter what the stars say, enjoy your day and make the most of this new year. May fortune smile upon you, whether the planets are aligned or not. You're the only one who truly gets to decide your real future. So go out there shining as bright as the stars above and start your year off with something magical.
