Racing through Appleby

Potterworld’s Butterbrew Festival celebrates the end of summer and the recent harvest since 2015. For the past eight years, players have been able to enjoy themselves through carnival games and brewing Butterbrew. The only downside is that the activities come with cooldowns – a perfect world would allow you to always be celebrating the Butterbrew Festival! Lucky for us, this year, there is something new to play: Barrel Racing!

Barrel Racing is Potterworld’s new seasonal minigame, joining the ranks of games like Star Racing and Wand Spleef. Like the other seasonal minigames, Barrel Racing is only available during its seasonal event. While this means you only have until September 30 to play it, there will be another wonderful activity to look forward to next year! However, while I have you here and there is still time to enjoy the game, let’s go over what Barrel Racing is all about.

Simply put, in Barrel Racing, you do exactly as the name describes: you race other players on barrels. When compared to games like Rafting and Sledding, I think of Barrel Racing as a distant cousin. While they are the same fundamentally, the best description of the Barrel Racing movement is sprinting through the course with the help of Volo and slowed-down turning speeds.

Barrel Racing brings a new type of gameplay to our catalog of minigames. Unlike other games, which run for one lap, Barrel Racing switches up the standard and marks a winner after three laps.

There are a couple of ways to queue up for a round of Barrel Racing. First and foremost, after you are introduced to the lovely Appleby Village and its Butterbrew Festival, you can visit the Shops and talk with Samuel Nottingham. You would not know at first glance, but Samuel is a Barrel Racing enthusiast! In no time, he will get you added to the queue. If you are too busy to stop by the event, you can always join up with /games.

Since Barrel Racing is an event-specific minigame, it gives out custom rewards instead of Gold. For each game you play, you will earn 7 Event Tokens, and you can earn up to 8 more if you place. Additionally, each player will also gain 5 Barrel Racing Tickets for every game. You can return to Appleby Village and trade these in for more Event Tokens or other Event Tickets.

To celebrate the release of Barrel Racing, the Arena team decided to host a Barrel Racing Tournament! Like Arena’s Quabbleball Tournaments, points were tracked through minigames instead of a live event. Points were earned each time players placed in the top three and were ranked in a simple system after that. Players were able to compete for the top five spots from September 1 to September 10, with the majority of the earned rewards being Arena Tokens and Gold. The grand prize was won by Mxckeyyy, who seems to be so fast on a barrel that he can complete all three rounds before you are starting your second. Who knows what kind of whirlwind he will be at the end of the month?

Barrel Racing has already shown itself to be another favourite seasonal minigame in the community. Had the Tournament lasted longer, I am sure the competition would have gotten even fiercer. If you want to join in the fun, make sure to jump into a game before the Butterbrew Festival ends on September 30. As always, I want to give a big thank you to the Development team for creating Barrel Racing. I wish you all a magical day, and may you enjoy the rest of this month’s Daily Diviner!

Royalty is as Royalty Does
Editorial

Hello lovely readers! Welcome to the Editorial column. Lately, Potterworld’s Store team has advertised a number of releases and sales. Let's take a look at the one's that have been released within the past month!

On August 26th, the Store team announced the Butterbrew Store Releases. Within this release, they announced that not only were they bringing back the seasonal items from past Butterbrew events, but also marketing some new items! The Store team partnered with both the Build team and the Artworker team to create a gorgeous new scenery, filled with wonderful memories of the Appleby Butterbrew Festival, as well as a new Pet Butterbrew Balloon. These brew-tastic items definitely buttered my brew this season. If you haven't purchased your items yet, there is still time to do so. They will be removed from the store on September 30th, so make sure you grab yours before they go!

Next, on September 1st, the Store team announced their Regal Store Releases. Not only did they advertise some of the crowns and tiaras that are already on the store, but they also added some brand new items like the Regal Wand and the Regal Broom! If you're the kind of person that likes to fantasize you're a damsel in distress or wanting to make your dreams of being royalty come true, I highly recommend purchasing some of these items. The crowns are so versatile that you can get them to fit well with a fairy princess outfit or even a dark and brooding king outfit. I personally love the Pet Lion in this release, as who wouldn't want an exotic animal for a pet when you're royalty? It would certainly scare any conspirators away!

Most recently, on September 9th, the Store team announced their Back to School Sale! With this sale, all items are now 40% off on the store through September 23rd. It sounds like the perfect time to go shopping! Buy yourself, or a friend, some new accessories for the new school year. Even better yet, use this as an opportunity to join a new allegiance!

What are you waiting for? Don't miss out on saving money while looking like royalty. Deals like this are too good to pass up! Until next time! This has been Creme_de_Creme reporting for the Daily Diviner.

First-Year Quests Pt. 2
Server Spotlight
Written by autumngrace

Hello witches and wizards of Hogsworth! In this Server Spotlight edition, we will be going over a part two of the Year One Quest series. If you have not read part one, you can look back at the Server Spotlight from the last edition on the Potterworld Daily Diviner forum. In this part, we will be going over "Getting Geared Up," "Magically Delicious," and "Prideful Potions." Let's get into it!

Kicking it off with the first one, “Getting Geared Up” is the fifth quest in year one. Its primary focus is teaching new witches and wizards about gear, how it works, and the benefits of using it properly. Jeremiah will have you cast at a dummy in the room once with no gear, and then he will give you a piece of gear to put on and practice with.

The next quest is “Magically Delicious”, the sixth quest in year one. In this quest, you will be tasked with making a Dragon Scale Cake. You will get to ride a Hippogriff to the Grounds Keeper’s Hut and take a scale right off of a Dragon. A very small Dragon, but a Dragon no less. You will also need to get a few Wiggleworm drops. Jeremiah thinks there may be a warp key in the back of the kitchens somewhere. Maybe that could help you get to the Wiggleworms?

The last quest we are covering today is “Prideful Potions”! This quest teaches you all about making potions. This quest has you craft three potions, all ranging in difficulty, but they should not be too hard. For the first potion you make, you will not even need to leave the room; the second potion will require you to go down the hall to the storage room to get your ingredients, and for the third and final potion, you will have to go all the way out to the ruined courtyard to gather the ingredients you need. You will make the potions one by one, and once you have made them all, the quest is finished!

Those are all the quests we are going to be covering in this edition. With that, thank you for reading this edition’s Server Spotlight, and I hope to see you next edition! Toodles.

Those Lights in the Sky
Lifestyle
Written by Silquer
Edited by snotflower

Hello dear readers, and welcome to the dazzling Lifestyle column! With Hogsworth students returning to school and a new semester trudging along, you may find Hogsworth life to be a little stressful right now. What better way to relieve stress than to enjoy the night sky after a long day of classes? Hogsworth Astronomy classes are famous for a reason; the castle’s pure night sky is a thing of legend. Astronomy is important in magic, but it is also important for the soul. It can be relaxing to gaze up at the stars and remember how small we are in the grand scheme of the universe, especially when you find yourself submerged in classwork. Let’s take a tour of the night sky at Hogsworth!

Our galaxy-wide exploration begins with the planets. Planets are some of the coolest sights in the night sky. It is often mind-blowing to me that these massive, beautiful worlds are visible to us! The three planets you can see from Hogsworth at night are Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These are best observed at night; other planets, such as Venus and Jupiter, are instead visible in the early morning. I’d recommend observing these planets on the weekend unless you want to go to class feeling like a black hole stole your energy!

Here comes the most important question: how do you look for them? Thankfully, planets are easy to distinguish from plain old stars. Although they can not usually be seen without a telescope or binoculars (yes, binoculars!), planets shine brighter and are bigger than stars. If you bring along a telescope or other magnifying device, you could even make out the details of the planets, from Saturn’s rings to the muddy color of Mars. If you’re interested in a night spent stargazing planets, the best times to watch for planets at night are from 8-9pm.

Now for perhaps the most voluminous features of the night sky: the stars and constellations. Some notable stars include Polaris, the North Star, Vega, the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, and Altair, the brightest star in the constellation Aquila. All of these are worth looking for!

If constellations pique your interest, some of the most popular are Cassiopeia, Ursa Major and Minor, and Draco. All of these are visible in the northern hemisphere around the time of September, so the start of the Hogsworth school year is the perfect time to observe these constellations. Every constellation has meaning, and it is worth your time to search these up and learn about them.

Equipped with knowledge about which planets, stars, and constellations to watch, you need to choose the best times and locations to set down a telescope and look to the sky. You will want to choose a night where the moon isn’t bright and full because it can drown out the stars by brightening the sky too much. This natural light pollution can potentially ruin your stargazing plans. From personal experience, this can be very annoying! Keep an eye on the moon’s phases to prevent accidentally catching a night where the moon’s light eclipses the stars.

Once you have chosen the perfect night, you will want to observe a few hours after sunset to let the sun’s light disappear fully under the horizon. Any lingering light can throw off your ability to see stars and constellations clearly. Finally, be sure to research the best months to see certain constellations that are visible at Hogsworth (or wherever you might be).

While times may be important, it means nothing without a perfect location. There are many factors that can impede on a good stargazing session, from light pollution to trees covering the sky. Places such as the Dungeons, the Great Hall courtyard, and the Bell Towers are all best avoided. Instead, you should lean towards big open spaces with little light pollution. The Astronomy Tower, the Quabbleball Pitch, and the Greenhouses are all good options to stargaze. Be prepared to bring a blanket, snacks, a telescope, and friends!

I hope you learned something new about the night sky and how to stargaze. Stargazing can be a great stress relief, so go out there and see the stars from Hogsworth yourself! I encourage you to find your own favorite constellations and stargazing sites. Happy observing!

Balancing Your Time
Lifestyle
Written by whoohoo
Edited by LMNJ

Do you find yourself not having enough time in your busy schedule? Not enough free time or time to do your studies? Well, do not worry, dear students, I will be giving you some tips on how to plan your time accordingly so you have time for everything!

The first tip to try would be creating a list of all you want and need to do. You can possibly create one row for all the important tasks that one must do, and a second row for hobbies and other plans. You can plan events like hanging out with friends, breaks, studying, work, school, sleep, and more with this method, ensuring the best possible outcome to your schedule!

A different way to form a schedule is to put everything in your calendar. You can choose to write it down on a physical paper version or on your phone. Both are possible, but make sure to check it every morning to know your schedule! Place the paper calendar in a spot you walk by frequently so you know for sure that you will see it often.

Mental health breaks are very important during your studies. These can range from hanging out with friends to simply picking up a book to read. Additionally, you can otherwise watch a movie or a TV show. You could even paint or take a walk outside! These breaks will make it so that you do not get overwhelmed while you still do all the activities and tasks you need to do.

Reminders can be a great way to remember to check your calendar, or that you have to do something. I personally use them for a lot of things and they are extremely useful!

These were all the tips I had for today! I appreciate you for reading, and I hope these tips help you make your schedules! Have a wonderful day!
